Areas of Focus
The Director of Development will be a collaborative member of the Bearspaw Christian School (BCS) Corporate Services team. Along with their staff compliment, the BCS Corporate Services team includes the Director of Business of School, the Director of Finance and the newly created position of the Director of Development. This team exists to execute the business operations of BCS while constantly upholding our Mission and Vision. This team is an integrated support to our Mission and Vision.

The Director of Development will be specifically responsible for the management and growth of strategic processes to generate additional revenue streams for BCS. This includes but is not limited to strategies and initiatives for fundraising, planned giving, major donors, capital campaigns and grant writing.

Position Profile
The Corporate Services Team works collaboratively within their unique areas of responsibility to support each other and optimize the overall success of day to day operations and the development of future strategic opportunities for Bearspaw Christian School. In order to successfully respond to the challenges of the role, the Director of Development will be a highly motivated individual with superior management and interpersonal skills and should represent as many as possible of the below mentioned characteristics (both personal and professional experience):

Specific Responsibilities
The Director of Development takes responsibility for the following key functions:
Adhere to, agree with and sign the BCS Statement of Faith, Staff Covenant and Discipleship Declaration.
Help to create a culture where students and staff accept God’s gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through personal witness and Christian role modelling.
To create and implement revenue generation plans and processes as developed with the Corporate Services team in alignment with budget and strategic planning.
General:
Development of and adherence to budgets, business plans, and projections.
Ensure that practices are in compliance with school, city and provincial/federal regulations.
Maintain accurate and complete records on current and prospective donors.
Manage staff within span of control.
Provide input and support to future strategic planning and growth at BCS.
Be available to BCS Trustees in their meetings to report on activities.

Optimize and maximize development funding and donations from efforts including but not limited to:

Fundraising:
Support and attend school run events throughout the year such as fundraisers, open houses, town hall meetings, concerts, graduations, student events, parent teacher interviews and AGM’s to provide messaging to advance development synergies.
Represent BCS by speaking at events, with groups and with individuals to promote awareness of and support for BCS.
Oversee special projects that require fundraising efforts.

Planned Giving:
Articulate, underscore and develop the relationship between generous giving and the ability to provide a unique, quality BCS education
Develop strategies for existing donors to move them to a regular cycle of giving.
Develop a BCS endowment and legacy giving plan.
Develop an Alumni program where graduates of BCS and their families continue to support its direction and development.
Develop a corporate matching program whereby BCS community members’ companies match donations to BCS.

Major Donors:
Research and develop best practices with respect to engaging major donors.
Cultivate and grow the BCS donor base with high capacity individuals.
Cultivate and grow the BCS donor base through the business community and through major corporate donors.

Capital campaigns:
Assemble, manage, guide and direct the raising of funds for current and future phases of capital campaigns for Bearspaw Christian School.

Grant writing:
Identify foundations who provide funding grants toward organizations like BCS and direct the engagement process of foundation partnerships.

Professional Qualifications
The Director of Development should possess as many of the following qualifications as possible:
University degree in Development, Marketing, Business or similar field.
Strong leadership ability.
Experience in management, development, marketing and/or sales management.
Proven track record of success in senior development or marketing roles.
Confident, driven and dynamic leader.
Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify and seize opportunities.
Superior verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
Evidence of the practice of a high-level of innovation and creativity.
Evidence of building relationships with key stakeholders.
