Position Description

Requirements:

Meet eligibility requirements for Canada Summer Jobs Program.
Pass a vulnerable sector Police Check
Be in agreement with Waverley Road Baptist Church’s Statement of Faith and policies.

Ontario – Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness in 5 Steps
Worker Health and Safety Training
Plan to Protect Orientation Training
Fire Safety Plan

Responsibilities:

Community Events

Help plan and lead Waverley Road Canada Day celebration activities.
Plan and host our Beaches Jazz Fest booth.
Offer children’s activities at local community Farmer’s Markets.
Assist in planning and leadership of The Big Give community service project.
Help organize annual church BBQ and garage sale.

Children’s and Youth Programs

Lead and assist in weekly children’s programs.
Develop relationships with children, youth and their families.
Assist in the setup and design of our children’s and youth spaces.

Summer Day Camps

Plan and implement schedule of activities for each week of camp.
Oversee groups of volunteers and delegate responsibilities as needed.
Be involved in registration and maintaining proper records for each program.
Lead smaller teams of children in sports, crafts, baking, free-time, story-time, and science experiments and lead large groups of children in songs, games, and other interactive activities.
Guide and direct junior leaders and help them build their own leadership skills.
Prepare games, activities, and meeting spaces for children’s daily arrival.

Overview of Summer Camps:

  1. Maker Fun Factory (SK-Gr.6), July 10-14, 9am – 4pm
  2. Maker Fun Factory (SK-Gr.6), July 17-21, 9am – 4pm
  3. Jr. High Expedition Camp, July 24-28, 9am – 4pm
  4. Kids Variety Camp (SK-Gr.6), August 14-18, 9am – 4pm
  5. Jr. High Variety Camp, August 21-25, 9am – 4pm

Supervision:

Meet with Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries each morning to discuss daily task and responsibilities.
The director will be on site to direct, monitor and assist with activities.
There will be regular debriefing periods to discuss the events of the day/week.

Mentoring:

The Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries will be the primary mentor to coach the student in the following skills: leadership, problem solving, teamwork, leading children in age appropriate activities, time management, organization, group discussion, and sports/game management.
They will meet at the beginning of the week for coaching which will focus on employability and job-specific skills, and will review areas of success and areas in need of improvement.
