St. Andrew’s is a small to medium sized congregation, located in the heart of Ancaster. Established in 1826, the present stone church building was completed in 1875. The sanctuary underwent a major renovation in 1990 and now features a grand piano and electronic organ. We presently are engaged in a major renewal of our building that we have called “Opening Doors,” which will provide better access and visibility in our community. (Please see for details).

Our membership reflects various Christian backgrounds and is known as a welcoming and caring congregation. Over the years, St. Andrew’s has been active initiating and leading several outreach ministries to our community. 

We have one Sunday morning service at 10:30 am (Sunday School occurs roughly halfway through the service) followed by Coffee Hour, a popular time of fellowship and refreshments. Each month, one Sunday service is an intergenerational “Teaching Service” when the children attend the full service rather than Sunday School. This service is more informal in style and the music is led by our Praise Band.



Jesus Christ is the centre of all we do in worship at St. Andrew’s. After this, our top priority for the next 5-10 years is to make our worship service as accessible as possible to new worshippers, especially those who are not connected to a church. We value our Reformed and Presbyterian tradition, and are exploring new forms of worship that will help us glorify God, lead people in worship, and into a transformative encounter with Christ. 


Music Ministry Objectives

We seek to have worship music that supports congregational singing, is excellent in quality, and varied in style and genre. We seek a balance between traditional church music and contemporary hymns and praise songs. While we currently favour traditional music, a near-term transition to an equal balance (50/50) is planned. Eventually, we expect this balance may further shift in favour of contemporary hymns and praise songs.


Music Leader Qualifications

We are seeking a Music Director for our congregation who exhibits a Christian faith and has experience in leading the congregation in music worship, both traditional and contemporary. 

The ideal candidate would be;

an accomplished musician on the piano and keyboard, who can lead congregational singing in worship,
a team player, flexible and personable and able to strengthen the whole music ministry,
an experienced choir director,
knowledgeable in both traditional and contemporary  music.

Other desirable qualities that would include;

the ability to play the organ,
experience playing with worship bands and able to provide leadership,
willing and able to support the music ministry for the children and youth. 


Music Director’s Role/Duties

Together with the minister, the Music Director will plan the music for Sunday worship and special services (Christmas Eve, Good Friday etc.). Where possible, music selections should reflect themes appropriate to sermon topics. The music director will conduct regular practices with the choir, cooperate with (or take a leadership role in) the praise band and be supportive of other musicians in the congregation willing to contribute their gifts.


Terms of Employment

The position is part-time, based on 12-14 hours per week. Annual salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications (salary range $19,500 to $24,000). The successful candidate will be awarded a one-year contract, renewable annually based on ministry needs and the Director’s work performance. Vacation time is negotiable.
