The Edmonton Japanese Christian Church is a multi-ethnic, multi-generational church of about 40 congregants. We are affiliated with the Alberta Baptist Association (ABA), and North American Baptist Association (NAB), and have been serving the Japanese Canadian community in the greater Edmonton region for over 35 years. We currently invite qualified individuals to submit applications for the position of Senior Pastor.

Brief Pastoral Job Description:

Principal function:

The main purpose of the pastoral role is to oversee and shepherd the church congregation especially in regards to the spiritual life of the members of the church.  This means disciple making and training of the people to become disciple-makers themselves.

2.  Regular duties:

The main priorities of the pastor are to preach and teach the Scriptures.  This will include providing messages each week for Sunday services and also providing spiritual teaching in Sunday school classes or bible studies or preparing devotions for various events and occasions within the church as needed.  Shepherding also includes visitations and timely biblical counseling whenever needed to encourage spiritual growth.  Carrying out baptismal preparation classes, baptisms, communion, weddings, funerals, baby dedications, etc. are all part of the duties that the position will require.

3.    Other:

In our affiliations with various organizations, the pastor is encouraged to take an active role in several groups.  For instance, as a member of the association of North American Baptist Conference, the pastor is encouraged to be involved with the Alberta Baptist Association cluster meetings (ministerials).  The pastor is also encouraged to be a part of other support groups such as CJM (Canadian Japanese Ministries) and other ministerials for prayer support.  Since we are the only church that is specifically reaching out to the Japanese-Canadian community, having an interest and getting involved in the Japanese-Canadian community is also encouraged.

The pastor will be held accountable to the church Board and will serve in all the Board meetings.

This is a full time, permanent position.
