Youth and Children’s Ministry Coordinator

Trinity Anglican Church, Aurora is a vibrant parish in the suburban community of Aurora, 40 km. north of the City of Toronto. We are an open and accepting community of faith that strives to recognize and respond to the Divine in daily living. To achieve this we strive to provide: relevant and meaningful worship; consistent care and compassion for those in need and spiritual resources that fosters a deepening of Christian formation.

In this context, Trinity’s vision for youth ministry is that our young people will be:

  • Equipped for a meaningful role in the life and leadership of the church and community
  • Connect with others as they grow as a community.

To help achieve this vision we are looking for a part-time (20hrs/wk.) Youth and Children’s Ministry Coordinator who is dedicated to developing, nurturing and supervising children’s and youth ministry that supports and strengthens their journey of faith and practice.

Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities:

Coordinate and supervise church school programming Sunday mornings and Friday evening youth groups.

Integrate children and youth into the broader life of the church as a bridge builder between age groups, the church and the community of Aurora.

  • Recruit and empower lay people and equip and mentor leadership skills in Christian service.
  • Grow our existing senior youth program to foster the development of maturing, Christian, global citizens.    
  • Attend optional youth ministry training, formation and networking events as desired.
  • Be available for occasional evening leadership meetings and attend all holy festivals.

Skills / Qualifications:     

  • Post-secondary training or equivalent with some formal theological studies.
  • Able to work effectively within a mainline Anglican spiritual ethos, affirming all people regardless of race, colour, socio-economic status, gender and sexuality.
  • Working knowledge of child development and youth culture.
  • Experience working with children and teens in a Christian setting.
  • Able to articulate and model a maturing personal Christian faith.
  • Passionate about building a caring community and willing to network effectively with other churches, agencies, faith groups, diverse backgrounds and special needs.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
  • Strong computer and social networking skills will be an asset.

The Youth and Children’s Ministry Coordinator will minister according to established policies, practices and guidelines of the Anglican Diocese of Toronto and Trinity Church Aurora. The Youth and Children’s Ministry Coordinator will function within a pastoral team.
