Student Ministry Pastor
(College and Career, Sr high and Jr high ministry)

Status: Full time

Position Overview:
As a servant leader and member of The Peoples Church (TPC) leadership team, the Student Ministry Pastor (SMP) will provide pastoral care and oversee a team that will meet students on “their turf” to help them grow in their faith, express their love of Jesus and serve the community.

This team player will collaborate with other internal departments, including but not limited to Outreach, Children, Worship, and external organizations.  The SMP will be  assisted by the Youth Associate.   Together, they will mobilize the students to serve in the community, supervise Student Ministry staff and establish clear ministry goals.

Major Responsibilities:

Leadership & Shepherding

• Lead weekly youth meetings to teach youth the foundational truths of Christian living and the Christian world view in the context of everyday living
• Preach and challenge youth to grow in their faith through Bible reading, service opportunities, worship and prayer
• Collaborate with the Outreach department to engage youth in local outreach as well as provide opportunities for every youth to be part of a mission trip before they graduate high school
• Develop engaging and interactive initiatives for weekday and Sundays, special events, trips and retreats
• Equip students and adults for ministry in a community and congregational context (i.e. serving as ushers, etc.)
• Foster strong relationships with the children’s ministry, assisting 5th and 6th grade students to transition well into middle school
• Maintain and further develop ongoing partnerships with parents, vested congregational members, and various youth organizations
• Develop, train and shepherd a team of adult volunteers
• Engage and interact with parents in developing strategies and resources for the spiritual growth and development of middle and high school students (Parents night, seminars, etc.)

Young Adults
• Oversee, develop, and grow the ministry to young adults by connecting and interacting with young people 18-25 years old through regular gatherings, service projects (local and abroad), Life Groups, and individual meetings
• Ensure that each young adult is living out their faith, serving and loving ‘their neighbour’
• Ensure that all activities are aligned with the mission, vision, and values of The Peoples Church
• Teach and preach gospel-centered messages from Scripture that challenge and inspire the growth of affection for Jesus and provide practical applications for daily living
• Recruit, equip, and enable volunteers to share in the leadership of the young adult ministry as Life Group leaders, teachers, and through one-on-one connections
• Network and collaborate with various young adult and other ministries across the GTA


• Supervise the Associate Youth Pastor
• Build dynamic teams of youth and adults who are passionate about putting the mission and vision into practical application
• Participate in weekly team meetings as required
• Develop and manage the youth department budget
• Other duties as assigned by Congregational Life Pastor


• Committed disciple of Jesus Christ, living in dependence on his indwelling Spirit and desiring to be obedient to Him as Lord.
• Displays strong moral character, integrity above reproach and honesty
• Minimum 5 years of youth or outreach ministry experience
• College Diploma or University Degree preferred
• Passionate and intuitive about the development, growth and thought processes of teens
• Experienced in working in an environment that is both culturally and ethnically diverse
• Proven proficiency in building and leading effective, high impact teams.
• Creative thinker, who is a team player with a positive attitude
• Culturally Relevant
• Technologically Savvy
• Skilled in organization, effective in communication and proficient in curriculum design
• Proven ability to develop strong relationships with parents, youth and various organizations

~~Working Conditions

• Vulnerability Sector Screening must be completed
• Interacts with others (youth, volunteers, staff) regularly
• This role may involve working extra hours as required
• Occasional travel locally and globally
