Position Description

Major Objective

The major objective is to develop an integrated intergenerational ministry active in the full life of the congregation. This involves:


1. A ministry that encompasses not just children and youth but also engages whole families. 

2. Programs for children, youth and young adults (Bible studies, discussion and weekly events)

3. Integration and engagement of young people in the regular worship services of the congregation

4. Recruitment of teachers, volunteers

5. Oversight and development of the Sunday programs for children and youth


Roles and responsibilities 

Children and Youth Programs
Develop and lead at least one “all ages welcome” family event each month 
Run three monthly youth events that include faith-development and community-building 




Continually search for ways to engage the families of our children and youth and to explore discipleship and faith with whole families for the sake of Christ and His mission in this world. 



Help to create a worship space that is inviting to a wide variety of ages 


Sunday School

Coordinate the volunteers and teachers of the Sunday School program 
Participate in and oversee the Sunday School Program each week and/or lead Children’s Worship 
Explore new ways of integrating new families into the Family Ministries of the church and the life of the congregation


Education Requirements and Skills

Be a committed Christian devoted to Jesus Christ, with a desire to reach people with the message of His good news
An education in, or currently in enrolled in a program of Christian studies or a related field   
Possess good administrative and communication skills
Energy and enthusiasm for youth ministry, including an outgoing nature, innovation and a demonstrated ability to reach out to people
An understanding of and compassion for young people and their culture
A desire to grow with the position and to evolve to meet the changing needs of the congregation 
Experience with children and youth in a church setting
An ability to collaborate with other staff members and volunteer leaders and teachers
Ability to set useful, measurable goals annually - and evaluate them
Participation in staff planning sessions
Be able to present a valid Criminal Records Check prior to receiving an offer letter
Be in general agreement with the Presbyterian Church in Canada’s polity and theology
Be eligible to work in Canada


Additional Notes


The successful applicant is invited to be a part of the Church family and not just a member of the staff
Skill in and understanding of modern music, including Christian music is preferred
The hope is to grow the position and may lead to further hours or expansion of the limits of family ministry in the future
In accordance with The Presbyterian Church in Canada’s “Leading With Care” policy, attendance at a “Leading with Care” workshop and a “Broken Boundaries” workshop as offered by the Presbytery of Westminster will be required as offered.
