Next Generations Pastor - Bi-vocational
Next Generations Pastor - Bi-vocational
NAKUSP, British Columbia , V0G 1R0
Saddleback Community Church in Nakusp BC (no relation to Saddleback Church in California) is seeking a bi-vocational Next Generation Pastor.
We are a small church in a very small, rural community, who see the huge value and ministry potential of youth and pre-teen ministry. We currently have a small number of youth and pre-teens as a part of our church family and would love to see more ministry opportunities for them as well as for the many youth in our community.
This part-time, entry-level position has other part-time work already secured at a local company for the successful candidate (if desired). You would be joining a part-time/bi-vocational lead pastor and a wonderful family of believers in Nakusp who are stretching themselves to see this happen.
Nakusp is a small, beautiful waterfront village of around 1500 people on the Arrow Lakes and the hotsprings trail. First time visitors to Nakusp are always amazed at how this incredible place could remain so quiet and undiscovered. On the other hand, the mountain roads make it feel remote, jobs are not easy to come by, and the small size may not work for everyone. Nakusp is a place where the people are here because they want to be and are thankful for their community.
Saddleback is a church fellowship (affiliated with PAOC) with an average attendance of around 40 - 45 on a Sunday morning. We are a great mix of seniors and younger families and the number one comment from visitors and new comers about Saddleback is the love, welcome, and family feeling that is so evident. As the pastor, I can attest to the love and welcome that we have experienced and how blessed we are to be part of this church family.
The position is aimed primarily at pioneering youth and pre-teen ministry for the church and community. The ministry would be focused at speaking into the lives of the youth connected to the churches as well as outreach to the non-churched. There would also be ample opportunity for other ministry experience as desired by the successful candidate.
Saddleback did have a combined youth group with the local Alliance church for the past number of years which has recently been disbanded due to a lack of leadership. There are volunteers who would like to be involved, but none who felt right about taking the lead role.
There has been no church-related pre-teen ministry in the area recently, aside from the classis “Sunday School”.
The Next Gen Pastor would work closely with the lead pastor and have opportunity to gain experience in other areas of ministry, as desired. The lead pastor is also bi-vocational and would love to welcome a like-minded, ministry focused individual to join in fulfilling God’s calling for them in Nakusp.
Expectations for the position would include 20 hours per week dedicated to ministry, with the thought of the incumbent spending approximately 24 hours per week at other employment. The ministry envisioned would include weekly youth/pre-teen meetings designed to minister to and enhance spiritual lives, as well as personal interactions and relationship with the youth throughout the week.
The pre-secured non-church employment option is at a Christian-owned split-rail fencing company. It would be flexible for 20 – 30 hours per week. This employment is optional and can be declined if the candidate finds or prefers other employment.
This position is best suited for a pioneering minded individual with a definite call to ministry, who is willing to work hard to fulfill what God is calling them to.
A vibrant faith in and love for Jesus and a Christian life that reflects this
A call to church ministry and a pursuit of training to this end (i.e. Bible college)
A committed, invested, and well-rounded involvement in church life
A love for youth and a willingness to invest in their spiritual development
The ability to teach the Bible and inspire others in their faith and life decisions
Planning and directing creative programs that instruct and inspire in a Biblical faith
Providing pastoral care and support to youth
Coordinating and leading volunteers in these ministries
Working independently as well as in a collaborative-team based environment
The many unspoken facets of doing the above to the best of your God-given ability
