Position Description


The Finance Manager is an integral part of CfaN and works closely with the Executive Director to provide support and financial analysis for the Board of Directors and Donor Development meetings.


Leadership & Financial Management

  • Oversee the Accounting Department and Staff
  • Communicate with Merchants for POS, Online and Vendors for invoice discrepancies when necessary
  • Manage accounting data in the International Reporting System
  • Manage transactions, invoices, reconciliations, wire transfers, bank accounts, statements and cash (CAD, USD)
  • Perform daily and monthly close process
  • Adjust Batches as necessary in Aegis database (NSF, refunds); review batches
  • Oversee bank deposits

Audit, Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare annual Charity Return; file GST/HST Return
  • Prepare financial statements
  • Present financial reports to the Executive Director and Board
  • Perform Daily Close process and Batch Review
  • Manage reports for Amex, Moneris and Stripe

Planning & Budgeting

  • Prepare annual budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Board
  • Manage allocation of Monies to appropriate Appeals & Funds
  • Review and update financial policy annually

Payroll & Benefits

  • Oversee cash receipts and disbursement systems
  • Administer and reconcile employee benefits


  • Participate in board meetings to provide and/or gather information relating to budgets, expenses and revenue or receivables
  • Maintain, recommend improvements and implement all financial controls and policies including staff expense reimbursement process and deposit procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • A consistent witness for Jesus Christ
  • 2-4 years of Finance or Accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit setting
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Has an aptitude for numbers; takes initiative and is self-motivated; ability to recommend and take action with confidence
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills; Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Simply Accounting would be an asset
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to create effective reports and presentations
  • Have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Effectively handles multiple tasks, duties, responsibilities and timelines
  • Ability to work longer hours, if required, during peak periods/events
