Summer Ministries Intern

Hughson Street Baptist Church (HSBC) is a growing congregation of predominantly young families, anchored in the urban North End neighbourhood of Hamilton, Ontario. HSBC was established in 1887; it is a Fellowship Baptist Church in the reformed, complementarian tradition.

We are at an exciting point in our church history; as the city and our neighbourhood prepare for significant cultural and economic changes, we seek to be a leader in supporting our community in Jesus’ name. With a Sunday morning congregation of approximately 270 people, and a weekly ministry to more than 450 families and individuals, HSBC is seeking a Summer Ministries Assistant who will join us from May 1-August 24, 2018

The Summer Ministries Assistant would work with the Children’s Ministry Directory and Youth Pastor on the following assignments:

CROSSTRAINERS SUMMER CAMP

Co-lead this summer camp program that offers three weeks of full-day camp experience for working families in our church community that includes the provision of lunch, snacks, Bible lessons, sports/games and arts and crafts for children in SK-Grade 5. There is also a one-week half-day camp for children in JK-Grade 2.
Much of his/her initial time will be spent in the development of programming for the camps and then supervision and direction of the delivery of these programs.

CAMP WIDJIITIWIN

  • Help arrange for children and youth from our neighbourhood to attend a week-long overnight camp that occurs the first week in July at Camp Widjiitiwin.
  • Attend and assist in leading camp activities at the camp including a daily one-hour ‘free-time” activity time, daily devotions and chapel time.

NORTH END SOCCER LEAGUE

In conjunction with the Youth Pastor, assist with the running of the North End Soccer League, which runs from May 22-August 21. Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • recruit and train coaches,
  • co-ordinate the registration process
  • liaise with the city to procure the necessary fields
  • order jerseys and other equipment, control inventory, ensure all safety standards are met
  • provide leadership to weekly leaders meetings
  • set up weekly drills and training for players
  • liaise with families keeping them updated on current weather and playing conditions
  • help with set-up and teardown of soccer fields each Tuesday evening

NORTH HAMILTON COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE BREAKFAST CLUB

Assist with the North Hamilton Breakfast program on Wednesday morning from 7:00-9:30 AM for the months of May and June.

KINGDOM KIDZ SUNDAY SCHOOL PROGRAM

Assist with the delivery of Kingdom Kidz, Hughson’s Sunday School program. Duties will include setting up and taking down weekly stages and occasionally teaching to allow our volunteers a summer sabbatical. 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Born again, baptized by immersion, believer who has a heart for the Lord and His church. Must be willing to submit to a police check
  • Bible College or Seminary training or equivalent training via other Christian organizations such as Youth for Christ, Missions etc.
  • Experience in similar ministries in a local church, either on a part-time, internship or volunteer basis. 
  • The successful applicant must abide by the HSBC Statement of Faith and the HSBC Children and Youth Ministries Protection Plan and agree to serve as a role model and refrain from any conduct that may hinder his/her ministry. 

REMUNERATION

  • Position runs May 7 to August 24
  • 40 hours/week @ $14.00/hr.
