Position Description

Since 1975, The Mustard Seed Street Church has been fighting hunger while restoring Faith for families and individuals living in poverty, as well as the working poor, throughout the Capital Regional District.  We are a Christian community offering a continuum of care that operates the Hospitality Centre for relationship building and advocacy, the Food Security Distribution Centre, Vancouver Island’s largest, the Family Centre that supports and empowers families and our addiction recovery program at Hope Farm Healing Centre in Duncan serving all who come to us without discrimination. We also offer church services for those seeking a place to belong and grow spiritually. Through these core programs we assist over 5,000 people each month with the help of more than 50 daily volunteers and many generous financial supporters.

 

POSITION TITLE:  Casual Resident Recovery Worker for Hope Farm

POSITION SUMMARY: This is a casual position to fill in when permanent staff are unavailable. The Casual Resident Recovery Worker will bring his/her Christian experience in working with individuals with addictive/destructive behavior or lifestyles. This position is responsible for supporting individual residents throughout their residency in the program. The Casual Resident Recovery Worker will contribute to the team of staff and volunteers.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Extend Mustard Seed Street Church ministry values and  your personal relationship with Christ to others including residents, staff volunteer and the community under the direction of The Mustard Seed Street Church Leadership
  • Maintain harmonious relationships with residents and staff
  • Ensure residents are adherent to house rules and guidelines
  • Prepare and/or facilitate preparation and clean-up of the meals
  • Ensure residents are attentive to their scheduled duties
  • Contribute to the on-going and smooth integration of residents into the Hope Farm community
  • Maintain security and support for Hope Farm residents
  • Facilitate recovery and study group processes with a Christian perspective
  • Participate in ongoing training and maintains mandatory certification
  • Participate in Mustard Seed Street Church (including Hope Farm specific) staff and volunteer meetings and trainings as requested to by supervisor
  • Other related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Christian commitment and in agreement with and willingness to sign the Mustard Seed Code of Conduct
  • The ability to work effectively with those in addictive behaviours and lifestyles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Commitment to the health and well-being of the Hope Farm residents
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively resolve conflicts and work with challenging personalities
  • Strong knowledge of addictions theories and approaches to recovery
  • The ability to react quickly and adaptably in fluid situations
  • Required- Class 5 driver’s license, class 4 an asset and an acceptable driver’s abstract
  • Required – Standard First Aid and CPR-C; Food Safe; or a willingness to obtain
  • Asset - Genesis Training
  • Asset – WHIMIS
  • Asset- ASSIST, Mental Health First Aid, conflict resolution training

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • This position is with The Mustard Seed Street Church and requires a person who has made a Christian commitment
  • Must be in agreement with and willing to sign the staff code of conduct
  • This position reports to: Hope Farm Manager
  • Hours: Casual / On call with no set number of hours promised
  • This position requires working evenings and weekends
  • Must read and agree to follow The Mustard Seed Policy and Procedure Manual
  • The Mustard Seed Street Church follows BC Employment Standards for termination
  • Must provide an acceptable criminal record check, including the level of clearance required to work with vulnerable people and renew this every five years or upon request.
