Position Description

Pastor of Worship Arts

Ministry Goal

Create an environment where God’s people worship unreservedly, Jesus is exalted, and the Holy Spirit leads.


The worship pastor serves in three primary capacities:

• Catalyst – stimulate a dynamic worship environment throughout the church
o Develops, communicates and executes the vision of the worship ministry in alignment with the vision of the church
o Serves as a highly engaging worship leader who enlarges the church’s love of Christ
o Champions the creative arts in the life of the church.
o Produces the best possible atmosphere for worship through sound, lighting, media, etc.
o Elevates and facilitates prayer in corporate worship gatherings and throughout the ministries of the church
o Serves occasionally in other capacities (e.g. teaching, preaching, leading) as assigned by the Lead Pastor.

• Coach – develop, train and resource worship leaders and musicians
o Strengthens the worship ministry by recruiting, equipping and shepherding volunteers.
o Develops and disciples musicians, vocalists and other artists
o Provides pastoral care and support to all worship teams, leaders, sound & technical personnel

• Administrator – coordinate people and resources for effective worship.
o Evaluates and coordinates the support requirements for all ministry activities (i.e. volunteers, sound system, music, lighting, equipment, scheduling).
o Plans, develops and assesses worship gatherings in collaboration with the Lead Pastor
o Designs, plans and implements seasonal and special worship events (e.g. Christmas, concerts, funerals, etc.)

Work Conditions & Team Structure

This is a full-time position (30-40 hrs./week) in a flexible working arrangement. Weekend and/or evening hours are required. The Pastor of Worship Arts reports to the Lead Pastor and serves as part of the pastoral team of Cochrane Alliance.

Spiritual Qualifications
Cochrane Alliance is seeking a gifted lead worshipper who stirs the church to encounter God. She/he understands the gospel and is a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Staff members are personally committed to mission and discipleship in their own journeys as they equip and encourage those under their care.

Theological Qualifications
Candidates must agree with the Statement of Faith of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada (C&MA). To view our Statement of Faith, please go to Accreditation with the C&MA would be required within a short timeline of being hired, if not already present.

Personal Qualifications
We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, leader able to inspire and motivate others—an effective team-builder who leads the congregation with the heart of a worshipper.

Other Qualifications

• Talented and experienced musician with instrumental and vocal skills, able to train and lead others in their musicianship
• Worshipper first, performer second
• Creative, motivated and innovative leader
• Formal training/education in a musical and/or theological field is an asset
• Technical proficiency and experience in managing A/V systems, media and software platforms for optimal performance
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate and equip volunteers for ministry
• Successful completion of mandatory Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector checks
