Position Description

Pastor of Children’s Ministry

Ministry Goal

Lead, develop and manage a vibrant Children’s Ministry which equips and enables ministry leaders and parents to missionally disciple children towards maturity in Jesus Christ.


Develop, communicate and execute the vision of children’s ministry in alignment with the vision of the church. Specific responsibilities include:

1. Recruit, develop and coach a network of spiritually gifted volunteer leaders who reach out toward children and disciple them effectively.
2. Supervise children’s programming with emphasis on Sunday School.
3. Equip and support parents as the primary disciplers of children.
4. Train and resource leaders for effective ministry to children.
5. Develop personal relationships with leaders providing feedback and encouragement.
6. Provide an emotionally and physically safe environment for children as outlined in the church’s child safety policies.
7. Research and select (or develop) curriculum appropriate for the learning goals of each age level. Ensure that materials are procured and accessible to ministry leaders when needed.
8. Maintain clean, organized and adequately equipped classrooms.
9. Oversee outreach to children and families in Cochrane, including but not limited to summer outreach programming.
10. Participate as a contributing member of the staff team.
11. Periodically review and reshape the ministry to foster health and to align with the mission and vision of the church.

Work Conditions

This is a full-time position (30-40 hrs./week) in a flexible working arrangement. Weekend and/or evening hours will be required.

Spiritual Qualifications
Cochrane Alliance Church is seeking a leader and competent Bible teacher. who understands the gospel and whose commitment to Jesus Christ is foremost in their priorities and lifestyle. Staff members are personally committed to mission and discipleship in their own journeys as they equip and encourage those under their care. A calling to vocational ministry and leadership gifts are required for this role.

Theological Qualifications
Candidates must agree with the Statement of Faith of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada (C&MA). To view our Statement of Faith, please go to . Accreditation with the C&MA would be required within a short timeline of being hired, if not already present.

Personal Qualifications
We are seeking a friendly, enthusiastic, creative, leader able to encourage and motivate others. An effective builder of teams, the successful candidate should possess strong decision-making and communication skills.

Other Qualifications
• Strong organizational, administrative and relational skills
• Strategic planner and self-manager, with proven ability to develop, communicate and execute vision.
• Formal training/education in an educational and/or theological field is an asset
• Comfortable with the use of media and technology in ministry to children
• First Aid and CPR (certification can be obtained once hired)
• Successful completion of mandatory Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector checks

Team Structure

The Pastor of Children’s Ministry reports to the Lead Pastor and serves as part of the pastoral team of Cochrane Alliance.
