Position Description

Position Purpose summary:

Within the context and mission of the Salvation Army Oshawa Temple, give direction to and oversee all aspects of the summer day camp program.  This Day Camp seeks to provide excellent children’s programming, including families that would otherwise be unable to afford a summer day camp experience for their children. 


  • Assist the Children’s Ministries Coordinator in planning, organizing and implementing all programming for the summer day camps in co-operation with the Youth Pastor, Office Manager and the Corps Officer.
  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the program. This includes (but is not limited to) daily schedules, employee relations, registration of campers, pick up/drop off Family Services day camp clients, transportation and special events.
  • Plan, organize and implement staff training/orientation for other day camp staff and volunteers along with the Children’s Ministries Coordinator and Youth Pastor.
  • Plan, organize and implement mentoring program for Staff, volunteers and campers in conjunction with the Children’s Ministries Coordinator and Youth Pastor.
  • Attend weekly staff meeting with Youth Pastor, Children’s Ministries Coordinator, counselors and volunteers.
  • Be a part of the Summer Camp health and safety committee.
  • Assist in recruitment of children and advertise the Day Camp program using various methods.
  • Maintain accurate records, statistics and supplies for the Day Camp program.
  • Work cooperatively with the Children’s Ministries Coordinator, staff and volunteers in all aspects of the program.
  • Establish and maintain an effective method of communication with Day Camp counselors, church staff and families of those children attending day camp.


  • University or college student who was in school full time during the 2017-2018 school year and is returning to school full time in 2018-2019.
  • Able to work within a Christian atmosphere and to promote the goals of the program and the mission of the Salvation Army.
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Possess leadership qualities, be organized, hardworking, dedicated and creative.
  • Works well independently and is a team player.
  • Willing to provide a Criminal Background Check, complete The Salvation Army’s Statement of Applicant for Work with Children form and complete the Armatus Abuse Risk Management online training before camp begins. .
  • Possess computer skills
  • Hold a valid driver’s license, preferably a “G” License.
  • Have or be willing to get Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • Be available for full 10 weeks of program.
  • Be able to provide 2 written references, 1 from an employer/supervisor and a family friend/pastor.

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week

SALARY: $15.00 per hour
