Summer Camp Intern

Positions Available: 1
Supervisor: Director of Children’s Ministries
Length of Employment: 7 weeks for 37.5 hours a week
Hourly Rate: $14

Start Date: July 3, 2018
End Date: August 21, 2018

- Pass a vulnerable sector Police Check
- Be in agreement with Waverley Road Baptist Church’s Statement of Faith and policies.

Health and Safety Training:
- Ontario – Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness in 5 Steps
- Worker Health and Safety Training
- Plan to Protect Orientation Training
- Fire Safety Plan


Children’s and Youth Programs
- Lead and assist in weekly children’s programs.
- Develop relationships with children, youth and their families.
- Assist in the setup and design of our children’s and youth spaces.

Summer Day Camps
- Help plan and implement schedule of activities for each week of camp.
- Oversee groups of volunteers and delegate responsibilities as needed.
- Lead smaller teams of children in sports, crafts, baking, free-time, story-time, and science experiments and lead large groups of children in songs, games, and other interactive activities.
- Guide and direct junior leaders and help them build their own leadership skills.
- Prepare games, activities, and meeting spaces for children’s daily arrival.

Overview of Summer Camps:
1 Shipwrecked (SK-Gr.6) July 9-13 9am – 4pm
2 Shipwrecked (SK-Gr.6) July 16-20 9am – 4pm
3 Jr. High Expedition Camp August 13-17 9am – 4pm

- Meet with Director of Children’s Ministries each morning to discuss daily task and responsibilities.
- The director will be on site to direct, monitor and assist with activities.
- There will be regular debriefing periods to discuss the events of the day/week.

- The Director of Children’s Ministries will be the primary mentor to coach the student in the following skills: leadership, problem solving, teamwork, leading children in age appropriate activities, time management, organization, group discussion, and sports/game management.
- They will meet at the beginning of the week for coaching which will focus on employability and job-specific skills, and will review areas of success and areas in need of improvement.
