Position Description

Chartwell is seeking a full-time Next Generation Pastor to join our staff team. The NextGen Pastor will pursue our congregation’s Mission and Vision as they relate to Jr. and Sr. High students by creatively implementing a comprehensive ministry with a strategic focus on discipleship/spiritual formation, missional service, and leadership development.

Chartwell is a growing congregation in Oakville, Ontario. We have a vision to go deeper in our experience of Jesus and wider in our Kingdom impact in the world around us, both locally and globally.

  • Cultivate healthy and appropriate pastoral relationships with youth
  • Facilitate and cultivate environments where young people learn to follow Jesus well, know and hold to the truth of Scripture, and fully participate in the life of our church family
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate studies relevant to the spiritual formation of students
  • Plan and lead activities which cultivate healthy relationships within the group
  • Accordingly, oversee and plan events in our church community where youth:
    • Feel loved and free to ask questions as they investigate and ‘figure out’ their faith
    • Are encouraged and equipped Biblically and spiritually to live for Christ in every area of life, and to articulate their faith well
    • Learn to live missionally and to actively to engage in mission alongside others in our church, as well as independently in their own lives
  • Recruit, train, and empower adult/youth volunteers to assist with programs
  • Establish and maintain regular contact with parents
  • Oversee and give leadership to youth mission trips/activities
  • Work with other ministry leaders to assist transitions from Children’s Ministry to youth, and from youth to adult life  
  • Participate in additional ministry opportunities in conjunction with the Pastoral Team and Lead Pastor



  • Lead weekly events for Junior and Senior High students (currently on Thursday & Friday evenings)
  • Attend and participate in Sunday worship service (10:00 am)
  • Plan and prepare for occasional special events and meetings with youth (Christmas, graduation)
  • Develop effective communication re: youth activities through church e-news, bulletin, youth newsletter, online, etc. providing details to administrative staff in a timely manner



  • Participate as a full and contributing member of the Pastoral staff team
  • Personally abide by the Chartwell Child Protection Policy, and ensure that all youth volunteers are informed, trained and compliant with the policy
  • Provide reports (verbal or written) as required for church meetings (e.g. Annual Report)
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and staff retreats
  • Coordinate ministry activities with other staff members
  • Abide by and advocate for Chartwell policies and procedures, staff covenant, and other organizational statements



Spiritual Beliefs and Practice

The NextGen Pastor must be someone with deep faith and significant Christian maturity who lives out a vibrant and public commitment to Jesus, has a genuine love for people, and a heart for local Church ministry.

The NextGen Pastor must be in alignment with Chartwell’s Statement of Faith.


  • A person of Christ-like character as described in Scripture (1Tim 3:1-7)
  • Conscientious to work/life balance for helathy self-care and the care of family (if applicable)
  • Practices spiritual disciplines that feed life and faith in Jesus and their relationship with Him
  • Willing to work with a mentor for their continued spiritual growth and well-being
  • Willing to work collaboratively alongside the Chartwell staff, reporting to the Lead Pastor
  • Willing to obtain a Police Reference Check for the vulnerable sector


  • Relevant Biblical or Ministry Training (e.g. Bachelor of Youth Ministry, Bachelor of Theology, etc.)
  • Maintains an ongoing study of Scripture and relevant resources focused on personal ministry development
  • Trained and developed capacity to speak to issues facing youth today


  • Consistent history of local church commitment and involvement
  • Minimum 3-5 years of ministry experience
  • A demonstrated track record of building effective teams of both adult and student volunteers


Team Player – Able to function as part of a team in a healthy fashion
Missional – Understands and is able to articulate and practice a ‘Missional’ model of ministry
Communicator—effectively and creatively teach youth in both formal and informal settings
Culturally Aware – Informed on cultural trends, especially as they pertain to youth
Leadership – Able to encourage and equip volunteers to excel in ministries as God has gifted them; passionate about growing as a leader, and developing others as leaders


Chartwell believes in remunerating its staff appropriately, and therefore makes use of CBOQ guidelines and information from the Canadian Council of Christian Charities as a framework for financial compensation, as commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and education.
