Position Description

Part Time Staff 18 hours

Job Summary

To attend to the health, safety and spiritual welfare of children and youth in the O’Connor/Parma area and surrounding communities

Major Duties:

  • Staff will be required to bring direction or assist in leadership programs, afterschool programs and or literacy programs.
  • Staff are required to interact, care for and supervise children during specific program times, connections and group trips inside and outside the Community.  Attention will be given to children’s physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and social needs.
  • Staff will be required to assume a great range of leadership roles in the implementation of the daily program. This includes organizing, programs trips, small group activities and bible lessons.
  • Staff must demonstrate a keen interest in children and youth ministry. Our evangelism strategy requires staff who are able to share a vibrant Christian faith willingly to others.
  • Staff must be physically able to sustain consistent physical activities with children throughout the duration of the season.  An overwhelming range of demands upon the staff implies the need for good self-governing in the use of hours off and regularly scheduled activities. The high incidence of behavioural and emotional problems among our clientele requires maturity, sensitivity, compassion and love in excessive amounts.
  • Staff are required to plan, lead and participate in weekend program retreats and staff retreats
  • Staff should be able to regularly plan and teach creative bible lessons/ lead mentorship discussions to children and youth. 
  • Be ready to work in a team setting and report to different supervisors
  • Staff will be required to participate in community outreach events
  • Staff must be willing to offer tutoring and student school support within the assigned community

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Vibrant relationship with Jesus
  • Regular attendance and ministry participation in your own church
  • A staff person’s lifestyle must be consistent with Biblical standards and Christian values at all times.
  • Able to evangelize and share personal testimony in all settings
  • (G License is an asset)
  • (Studying towards Child and Youth certificate, Psychology or social work an asset)
  • Desire to outreach in the community
  • Punctual
  • Administrative skills
  • Able to demonstrate creativity in interaction, lesson and game planning
  • Desire to build relationships with and care for the needs of children and youth
  • Able to positively influence, motivate and mentor children spiritually, emotionally, socially and intellectually.
  • A positive approach to problem solving is a critical skill to teach and uphold.
  • Experience working with individuals and groups of children of various ages and abilities.
  • knowledge of child development stages and behaviour management techniques.
  • Able to perform some spontaneous and individual programming.
  • Able to sustain the physical demands of both indoor and outdoor children’s activities
  • Conscientious in matters of personal ethics and lifestyle.
  • Able to relate and work well with peers.
  • We require absolute confidentiality regarding the children we interact with, as well as personal and professional integrity in matters of relationship, programs and work ethic.

Time commitments

  • (Fall/ Spring Program- 18h)
    • October- May
    • Monday- Friday -various hours
    • 3-4 working weekends
  • (Summer -part time 30)
    • Monday to Friday 8am- 4:30 approx.
