Position Description

Pickering Christian School (PCS), an independent, private Christian school in Ajax, Ontario, with growing enrollment, is looking for an exceptional and experienced Christian teacher to fill a Full-time teaching position for the upcoming 2019/2020 school year.

Our current need is for a Grade 4 Classroom teacher. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience. This position would begin on Tuesday September 3rd, 2019.

Job Purpose:

  • To carry out the professional duties of a teacher in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the Principal and Vice Principal
  • To be an effective teaching professional who demonstrates a thorough understanding and knowledge of grade 4 curriculum
  • To accurately and effectively assess students
  • To design and implement long-range plans and unit plans that demonstrate creativity, inter-discipline connections, and enrichment of curricular topics
  • To demonstrate effective teaching practices that include differentiated instruction to remediate and enrich student learning
  • To take responsibility for professional development and to work in a collaborative working environment
  • To lead, coordinate, and/or support co-curricular activities, sports and/or clubs

Job Requirements:

  • Proven teacher certification (OCT).  A focus on Math and Language is ideal.
  • Proven ability to provide high-quality education for all students with a particular focus on exceptional math and literacy programming enrichment and remediation
  • Proven ability in effective classroom management
  • Proven ability to assess, monitor, and report on student progress
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and to write clear long and short term plans
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and to use inclusive and innovative teaching practices
  • Proven ability to teach and use technology (PC, SmartBoard, Chromebooks) in the classroom
  • Proven ability to support student development competencies within a literacy program focused upon novel studies, critical-thinking writing program, and oral communication
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and be open to feedback and new learning opportunities
