Job Description

The full time pastor at Everton Community Church is the Spiritual leader of the congregation. He will be a Shepherd and a Preacher who clearly preaches the gospel as true, relevant, and applicable to all of life. He will primarily preach the Word, and care for the congregation through visiting and counselling, and help the church be a light to the local community.

He will be a mature believer who is able to model and teach godliness and Christian commitment while equipping the congregation for service.  The pastor will work with the elders and others to carry out the work of ministering to the body and reaching out to the surrounding community.

Overview of the Church and Community:

Everton Community Church was founded in 1861 as part of the Disciples of Christ denomination. Since the early 1970's it has been a local evangelical community congregation. Current weekly attendance is about 35. Everton is a small hamlet 15 minutes east of Guelph with a wide mix of people and backgrounds. Everton Community Church reflects that diversity in terms of ages, professions, and denominational variety.  Our services are a mix of traditional and contemporary worship with a time of prayer, scripture reading and preaching. We also have Sunday School every week and several community groups. Our church has a reputation as being a loving, caring congregation.

Roles and Responsibilities

To preach and teach the Word of God

To be a shepherd for our congregation.

 To disciple people to a greater maturity in Christ.

To pray for our church and community.

To visit those in the church and or community as needs and opportunities arise.

To work with the elders and deacons to provide leadership to the congregation.

To live within the Everton/Rockwood/Guelph community.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Master of Divinity or its equivalent from an accredited institution.

Will adhere and subscribe to the Statement of Faith ( See church web site

Preferred Skills

Able to communicate the Word of God through relevant expository preaching.

Good communicator who can relate and engage various age groups within the church and the outside community (Interpersonal skills)

A man of prayer and moral integrity who leads his home according to the Word of God

Able to work with others as a team player

Has the ability to develop and implement vision within a diverse congregational setting
