Join our dynamic team of professionals as an on-call court reporter. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience.
What can I expect to do in this role?
Ensure the effective operation of recording devices (Liberty Court Recorder)
Make annotations to complement to the record
Ensure the security of the recordings, safeguarding against unauthorized access or copying
Ensure quality of audio recording to ascertain and verify all contents of recordings
Speak publically during proceedings to seek clarification and to ensure audio is being recorded clearly
Prepare and maintain boardroom for proceedings (examples: set up equipment and light refreshments)
Respond to inquiries and provide instruction to clients relating to the recording of proceedings
How do I qualify?
You have a Ontario driver's license and a reliable vehicle to travel to our Milton, Oakville, and/or Burlington locations, as well as locations in the GTA.
The ability to understand/acquire knowledge of legal terminology.
Excellent command of the English language including reading, writing, grammar, and punctuation.
Ability to work independently without supervision.
Current Police Records Check.

You can remain composed and provide information/instruction to a variety of stakeholders (example: counsel, witnesses, and the general public) in a courteous and respectful manner.

You can prepare a variety of written documents (example: forms and orders).
Problem Solving and Judgment Skills:
You have demonstrated problem-solving skills in order to work independently to identify, address, resolve or refer clients' problems and concerns.
You can maintain confidentiality and security for all recordings.
You can use tact to interrupt and clarify proceedings and to ensure an accurate and complete recording.
Organizational Skills and Attention to Detail:
Accurate keyboarding skills to annotate court proceedings.
The ability to organize and prioritize your workload.
Computer and Digital Recording Skills:
The ability to operate and troubleshoot digital recording equipment and related software (example: Liberty Court Recorder, Liberty Court Player) to ensure the proper recording and annotation of proceedings, provide playback upon request of counsel, and resolve operational and technical issues.
As a Court Reporter, you may also be responsible for the preparation of transcripts.
