Brooks Evangelical Free Church
Our Vision and Mission
Serving the city of Brooks since 1943, we have a desire to share the good news of Christ with our community and disciple believers to grow in Christ-likeness. Our vision is “Creating Connections in our Community that Glorify God”. We want to make a difference by living out the Fruits of the Spirit and building up those within our church body and those who do not know Jesus Christ.
Some of our values that remain unchanged over time are our devotion to God’s word, prayer, community outreach and commitment to missions, unity and development of spiritual growth.
Currently, the church has a Youth Pastor and a Pastor of Child and Family Ministries on staff, as well as a church administrator. For the past year, we have also had a transitional pastor in place, guiding us to set our vision and direction as a church and mentoring our board and staff. This past year has been a time of spiritual growth, as the church has witnessed 17 baptisms and 15 new members!
Our current attendance is 220–250 on a Sunday morning, and the church directory consists of 489 people (including children) that call Brooks Evangelical Free Church their home.
As part of our vision, we are putting an emphasis on small groups for adults and youth, kids and youth programming during the service and mid-week, care ministries and special events throughout the year.
The City of Brooks is one of the fastest growing communities in Alberta! It has a unique, multi-cultural flavour, boasting a population of 14,451. Brooks is in the heart of southeastern Alberta, located ideally between Calgary, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge. For the outdoor enthusiast, just to the north is Dinosaur Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To the south is Lake Newell, the largest lake in southern Alberta and a major attraction for the camper, fisherman, boater and sailor1 . Many other recreational opportunities exist within the city limits. We are also home to the 2013 National RBC Champions, the Brooks Bandits Junior- A hockey team, and the Brooks Bombers of the Western Major Baseball League.
The City is further described as the “The City of 100 Hellos”, regularly welcoming new Canadians into our community. This also means that we have a mission field right outside the doors of our church! Brooks is steadily growing with residential and commercial development, a wide range of restaurants, grocery and retail outlets plus educational facilities including the Medicine Hat College Brooks Campus, 2 high schools, 3 junior high schools, 4 elementary schools, Newell Christian School and a Francophone school.
According to a current article in Money Sense, Brooks is ranked the 30th best city in Canada (#1 in Alberta) to raise a family. This ranking is determined by factors such as low crime rate, low cost of living, and weather2 . Brooks truly is a wonderful place to call home!
