Ministry Overview

Power to Change (P2C) seeks to help people know Jesus and experience His power to change the world.

Position Overview

As a part of the HR team, the Payroll and Benefits manager will play an integral role in P2C by overseeing all areas of payroll and benefits for over 450 staff across Canada. By using your love for numbers, problem-solving, and payroll knowledge, you have the opportunity to impact Canada with the Gospel by supporting our staff who work on the front lines sharing the Gospel.

Primary Objectives:

  1. Payroll
    1. Payroll for national and international staff is processed in a timely and accurate manner which includes the following:
      1. Government reports for source deductions are submitted in timely manner
      2. Policies and procedures in place are in compliance with all internal external rules and regulations
      3. Year-end slips for staff and government are in compliance
      4. Taxable reimbursements are processed accurately
      5. Final payments for staff are accurately paid out within the required time along with any final paperwork (ei: ROEs).
      6. All staff salary changes are within the appropriate pay scales and meet all internal and external requirements.
    2. Payroll journal entries are posted accurately with zero errors
      1. Staff and ministry accounts are expensed the appropriate amounts for employer taxes.
      2. Internal staff transfers to memo accounts are processed on schedule
    3. Staff are able to come on and off payroll with minimal paperwork and efficiency by continual evaluation.
    4. Funding agreements are in place annually for those staff who are bridged.
  2. Health, Wellness and Benefits
    1. Relationships for all group insurance and service providers are well-maintained
    2. All benefit programs are properly administered and reconciled on a monthly basis for all benefit packages including expatriate insurance plan including but not limited to:
      1. Group RRSP plan
      2. Health and dental group benefits plans
      3. Provincial health (specifically MSP)
    3. Benefit programs and health education initiatives are provided and communicated to staff to help with overall staff health.
    4. When staff go on medical leaves, they are walked through the process with paperwork (including WCB claims and medical leave requests).
  3. Other Responsibilities
    1. Active member of the following teams:
      1. Crisis Management Team
      2. Health and Safety Team resident
    2. Attend ministry prayer times
    3. Lead devotional as required for the HR team
    4. Attend weekly chapel time with all Power to Change staff
    5. Other duties as assigned by the HR Director

Education & Experience:

  • 3 - 5 years experience leading a finance or payroll team
  • Experience in overseeing benefit programs preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP or similar program considered an asset
  • Experience with Dayforce HCM or similar program considered an asset
  • Canadian Payroll Association designation considered an asset
  • Post-secondary education in a related field

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • High degree of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite
  • Thorough understanding of the Employment Standards Act in all provinces and Canada Revenue Agency roles and regulations
  • Excellent administrative skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently under pressure
