Executive Director

Executive Director

Company: HOPE International Development Agency
214 Sixth Street
New Westminster, British Columbia , V3L 3A2

Position Description

“Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”  Matthew 25:40

Those words stir up a desire in you to do something especially impactful with your career.

You’ve got strong business acumen, a love of people and strategy, and a sense of adventure. You want to take on a sophisticated challenge in the service of people in need.

We are HOPE International Development Agency, and we’ve been looking for you.

We exist to improve the supply of basic human necessities for the neediest of the developing world through self-help activities, and to challenge, educate, and involve people in the developed world regarding development issues. You’ll lead a small, highly talented staff who are overseeing 30 projects in four continents.

If your interest is piqued, you may be our new Executive Director.

Executive Director

Your primary goal in this role will be to provide inspiring leadership across our organization. You’ll accomplish this in four key ways, detailed below.

Establish a strategic direction – you’ll work with our board and staff to set organizational priorities and then deliver on them. You’ll cast a long-term vision, show us what steps are next, and develop followership to move us forward together.

Deliver an operating plan – we currently have mechanisms and strong program directors in place for our key initiatives around the world. You’ll learn about the many contexts we move in, and how you can best support our people and programs. You’ll share your broader view, while taking a learning posture. We will look to you to keep lines of communication open and healthy, and stakeholders aligned.

Raise funds – our former long-term Executive Director, one of the inspirational founding members of HOPE, has developed a large book of donors; meeting and speaking regularly as the public face of HOPE. You’ll pick up where he left off, combining your passion and presentation skills to fund our vital work.

Build fruitful relationships – you’ll interact with our board, staff, donors and partners. Your ability to turn strangers into enthusiastic cooperators will be crucial. We’ll also count on you to train and mentor our younger leaders, ensuring the health of this mission for generations to come.

Working @ HOPE

This is a full-time permanent role working in the New Westminster area of British Columbia. Salary is expected to be commensurate with experience. We also offer health benefits.

Travel will represent a significant component of your time, and you’ll travel across Canada and to places like Cambodia, Dominican Republic, and Ethiopia. You’ll be onsite with several of our projects, where we serve the poorest of the poor. You will be travelling to developing countries, so physical resilience and a sense of adventure are important.

This role will change your life. As you interact with people from all walks of life, your perspective will change and you will experience a richness that few ever know. We hope that excites you, and we hope you’ll join us.

Here is our list of must-haves:

  • A valid passport and an ability to travel internationally
  • 10+ years of experience in a leadership role, in a customer facing or Not For Profit context
  • Experience setting the business strategy for an organization
  • Experience in a role with financial responsibility
  • Experience creating and delivering an effective operations plan (Not For Profit context an asset)

These would be considered assets:

  • Experience in a consensus-based leadership role
  • Experience running successful fundraising campaigns
  • Knowledge of government funding, agencies, regulatory affairs
