Position Description

Status: Seasonal

Duration: 6 months (Every weekend in May to October 2019)

Number of Positions: 2-3 Positions Available

Position Purpose:

Responsible for the implementation of a safe, enjoyable, quality camp experience for all campers and volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of high school or at least 18 years of age; Registered with National Lifesaving Society (NLS) with minimum one(1) year experience; Active Christian faith and a genuine interest in the faith development of children and youth; Previous experience in a camp program or childcare environment; Proven leadership skills as a Counsellor In Training (C.I.T.) or Leader In Training (L.I.T.); Ability to take direction and work co-operatively with all levels of staff; Proven ability/skill level to instruct children in a specific camp program area; Possess a current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. Certificate prior to commencement of camp;

Direction Exercised: Program Volunteers

Working Procedures:

Serve as a Christian role model to campers in personal faith, worship, language, appearance, manners, and health habits; Complete tasks assigned by the camp directors to complete (e.g. art, devotions, hiking, special group projects, administrative assistant, etc.); Organize and implement specific camp activities; Ensure the safety of all campers; Serve as part of the kitchen staff and a member of the food serving staff; Responsible for the effective utilization and operation of all equipment and supplies to maintain a safe working environment, including clean-up and equipment maintenance; Adheres to Land of Hope Policies and Procedures and other applicable legislation; Responsible for following all transportation procedures with emphasis on maintaining control and camper safety at all times; Responsible for the motivation and behavior management of all campers; Responsible for the integration and instruction of Campers with special needs; Responsible for the supervision, direction and evaluation of volunteers; Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques. Other duties as assigned.

Skill/Knowledge Requirements:

Accommodations:

Proper accommodations will be provided for Counsellor to live in cabin with campers. Counsellor must maintain awareness of campers’ whereabouts, and support campers to be where they need to be. Participate in and/or coordinate evening programs and special events for Resident campers; Off-site requirements being available on a volunteer basis from May to September of the camping season to carry out the duties of the position.
