Associate Pastor of Adult Discipleship

This position is responsible to assist the Senior Pastor in the care and discipleship of the adults in the church by managing an assimilation strategy, championing the Life Group ministry, managing the pastoral care strategy, and managing a process that leads people to serve in their areas of giftedness and passion.

Status: Full time (40 hours/week)

Primary Responsibilities

Connecting Processes

People feel connected when they are in relationships with other people. Springvale’s two primary relational sticky points are Life Groups and Service in ministry. Therefore, it is essential that we have an effective process at moving people into Life Groups and/or ministry service as quickly as possible. This position will be responsible to:

  1. Manage the recruiting, training, and running of new assimilation processes and the necessary teams that will help new people connect quickly.
  2. Oversee the Sunday Connections Team.
Outcomes

30% of first time guests are assimilated within 3 months into Springvale through connection with a Life Group and/or weekly ministry 

Discipleship & Life Groups

Life Groups is our primary tool to disciple our adults. Healthy Life Groups will focus inward in community, upward in Word & prayer, and outward in mission and service. Community (inward) happens when people are noticed when they are absent, are listened to when struggling, and are shepherded in their spiritual growth. Word & Prayer (upward) will provide focus upon God with a view to applicational teaching. Mission and Service (outward) happens when the group bands together to serve others and reach out to lost people. Therefore, this position is responsible to:

  1. Train and equip Life Group leaders to be effective at leading healthy groups
  2. Provide opportunity for seekers and new believers to be effectively discipled
  3. Create and maintain an organizational structure that supports growth and does not sacrifice quality of discipleship.
  4. Champion/promote the importance of Life Groups at Springvale for every adult
  5. Manage the recruiting, connecting, curriculum, coaching processes to ensure Life Groups are healthy and effective
Outcomes
  1. 70% of average Sunday adult attendance are in a Life Group
  2. 80% of Life Groups score at least 70% in the Life Group Health Test
  3. 100% of Life Groups providing connection and “general” pastoral care for their members 3. Pastoral Care Pastoral Care happens at three levels:
    1. general care (listening, prayer, visiting, support in difficulties, meals, phone calls);
    2. specific care (counselling, Restoration Prayer, Freedom Sessions);
    3. urgent care (serious health issues, marital breakdown, death, emotional/mental breakdown).

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care happens at three levels:

  1. general care (listening, prayer, visiting, support in difficulties, meals, phone calls);
  2. specific care (counselling, Restoration Prayer, Freedom Sessions);
  3. urgent care (serious health issues, marital breakdown, death, emotional/mental breakdown). 

This position is responsible to:

  1. Ensure general pastoral care is being done through Life Group ministry
  2. Manage a system of pastoral care for people not connected in a Life Group.
  3. Manage a system of trained deacons/deaconesses available to implement an “Urgent Care Plan” for anyone needing urgent care d. Oversee Seniors Ministry Coordinators to ensure a system of regular pastoral care and discipleship is being effectively implemented e. Provide oversight and resourcing for the leader of the specific care ministries (Restoration Prayer, Freedom Sessions, and Counselling) f. Manage effective Baptism & Membership processes.
Outcomes
  1. Pastoral needs responded to within 48 hours as per the Urgent Care plan
  2. Salvation and spiritual growth stories coming from Seniors ministry.
  3. Celebrations of baptisms and new members three times each year

Service Teams

People connect and grow when they serve in their area of passion and giftedness. This position is responsible to:

  1. Champion the need/opportunity of serving on a team
  2. Manage a system for helping people identify their spiritual gifts c. Manage a process for helping people find a team on which to serve in their area of passion and giftedness
Outcomes:

70% of average Sunday adult attendance involved in a weekly ministry

Miscellaneous

  1. Ability and experience in preaching an asset.
  2. Provide leadership and mentoring for other staff as required
  3. Perform marriages and funerals as required
