Position Description

Our goal is to end chronic poverty in Toronto in one generation.

We are seeking a Family Services Care Management & Employment Specialist who will be responsible to work closely with families that are involved with child protection services and provide a pathway to employment.  We work holistically and collaboratively with families and all stakeholders to ensure they reach positive outcomes towards family stability and employment.


Reporting directly to the Director of Family Services the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Utilize our RISE (Respond, Invite, Support, Engage) Model of care to provide a full wrap-around system of support through partnerships, collaboration and advocacy.
  2. Working closely with parents to mitigate admission of children into the child welfare system, including:
    1. Accompaniment to criminal or family court
    2. System navigation
    3. Facilitating / attending care conferences
    4. Risk mitigation utilizing work action plans
  3. Play an integral role in YSM’s workforce development pathway towards as the lead coordinator for the Family Services Department for employment programming that are relevant to building capacity for families to become financially stable.  This will include:
    1. Develop, implement and improve Life-Changing Pre-Employment Programming
    2. Facilitate and design various workshops and experiential learning opportunities
    3. Participate and collaborate with other key stakeholders through the Pre-skills Working Group
  4. Program accountability including financial management, reporting targets and allocation of resources


The successful candidate will have the following skills and training:

  1. MSW/BSW  or equivalent certifications with minimum 2 years’ experience
  2. Able to work with diverse people groups, within a multi-faith, multi-cultural, anti-oppressive framework
  3. Some experience or knowledge with project management
  4. Ability to make analytical decisions around care management and program delivery
  5. A demonstrated passion for poverty alleviation and families in crisis
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  7. Ability to travel around the city to assist with families’ appointments
  8. Must have strong administrative and computer skills
  9. Skilled at preparing, delivering and facilitating workshops


  • A police check will be required / First Aid & CPI training is an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to YSM’s principles of faith, mission and values
  • Able to provide flexibility in schedule where required
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
