Position Description

The Mustard Seed is a Christian humanitarian organization whose vision is to build community, grow hope and support change. Intentionally following Jesus Christ and partnering with the community, The Mustard Seed combats the root causes of poverty in Alberta and British Columbia and works to create positive, lasting change in the lives of those we serve. The Mustard Seed provides basic services— food, clothing and housing, and support services—education and employment, to those living in poverty within Alberta and British Columbia.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Worker, the Grounds Crew Worker is a member of a team responsible for a full range of maintenance and janitorial assignments for The Mustard Seed’s buildings in Red Deer. They will have the opportunity to participate on a team that is committed to developing hope, providing care with respect, and nurturing the seeds of change in the lives of our guests.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cleaning and maintenance of The Mustard Seed building
  • External yard and property maintenance including lawn care and snow removal
  • Minor and some major building repairs and maintenance e.g. Painting, drywall repairs, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry
  • Working with volunteers, guests and residents
  • Lifting and moving of at least 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Furniture setup and moving
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Holding a trade considered an asset
  • Desire to work in a Christian environment
  • Ability to work well with people
  • Organized and self-directed
  • Knowledge of WHIMIS and OH&S standards
  • Ability to lift and move at least 50 pounds
  • Must adhere to Health and Safety regulations
  • A team player, who works collaboratively with team-mates and has a ‘teachable spirit’

Other Information

  • This is a part-time fixed term position working 20 hours per week Monday to Friday 8 am-12 pm; hours and days may vary depending on organizational needs
  • This is a 6 month seasonal contract position
  • Working environment will include lifting, standing, walking and reaching in both indoors and outdoors
  • Physical effort: frequent and regular to complete cleaning duties
  • Mental effort: moderate, periods of high volume
  • Employment Security Check is required

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
