Position Description

Department: O’Connor Family Centre

Reporting to: CYC Director

Status: Part Time/Contract

Hours: Average 3.5 days/week; 20 hours/week

Job Summary:

This position will have a strong focus on community outreach and engagement with an emphasis on building and strengthening relationships with community residents and stakeholders within the O’Connor area.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To work within and support The Scott Mission’s Christian Statement of Faith, Goal and Objective
  • Emphasis on interdepartmental partnership programming at the Scott Mission O’Connor Family Centre
  • Assist the Women and Family Department and Partners with the implementation of Community Food Programming, Community Development and Engagement Plan
  • Assess and provide social services and Christian spiritual support and assistance through pastoral ministry, referrals to other services, basic needs and crisis support including the food bank and client assessment procedures
  • Assist in community assessment and community outreach, relationship building with local residents
  • Provide direct ministry services through implementation and support of resident bible study, prayer support, and worship/prayer events at the O’Connor Family Centre
  • Participate and support community agency network projects and/or events and attend meetings
  • Appropriate documentation of client files
  • Able to participate and assist with staff and client devotions
  • Crisis intervention/prevention responsibilities
  • Provide support to clients and team in area of behavioral management


  • Hold a solid and vibrant Christian faith. Regular attendance at a recognized church or worshipping community
  • Agree with and support The Scott Mission’s Statement of Faith, Goal and Objectives and Philosophy of Ministry
  • Hold a mature, Christian commitment with proven ability and a strong desire to communicate the gospel (based on sound biblical teaching) and able to pray with clients
  • Attending or has obtained a Diploma or Degree in Ministry/Social Services Post-Secondary Education is an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of the various issues within marginalized and undeserved communities at a community level
  • Demonstrate assessment skills: Basic Needs, Crisis Intervention, Assessing one’s capacity to cope within their environment
  • Demonstrate some understanding of the personal issues clients face: immigration, housing, poverty, abuse, addiction, mental illness
  • Desire to build relationships with and care for the needs of the community
  • Able to lead/co-lead in Ministry Services; Prayer, Bible Studies, Pastoral Care
  • Able to carry out work with integrity, respecting confidentiality of clients (and donors)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills; outgoing and engaging personality, emphasis on listening and humility
  • Some experience and demonstrate understanding in Behavioral Management
  • Computer literate: MS Word, Excel, Window, Access Database
  • Able to work independently, self-motivated, flexible
  • Strong team player, proven ability and desire to work on a team
  • An excellent command of written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of Christian and Toronto Social Service Resources
  • Driver’s License is an asset
  • Other language is an asset
