Position Description

The Yonge Street Mission is a Christian faith-based not-for-profit community called to demonstrate God’s love, peace and justice to those living with economic, social and spiritual poverty in Toronto.  Our Bridges Team is seeking a full-time temporary (8 weeks) Summer Program and Community Support Worker. The Summer Staff will work with adults (21-60 years old) living in chronic poverty, out of our Regent Park location. The Staff will serve programs running Tuesday to Thursday, including evenings and day trips.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible to:

  • Work as part of a team to provide relief services to the adult community members
  • Facilitate adult learning opportunities
  • Build rapport with program participants
  • Provide community participants with advocacy support
  • Occasionally lead a workshop for a group of 15 people
  • Accompany community members on outings
  • Shadow Care Managers in goal and learning plan creation.
  • Assist with program administration and data entry
  • Other duties as required

 Qualifications: The successful candidate will have the following skills and training:

  • Flexible and enthusiastic team player, with a teachable spirit
  • Passion for individual development and transformation
  • Knowledge of issues facing those in chronic poverty
  • Capacity to relate to those experiencing a spectrum of mental health challenges
  • Comfortable with a professional, non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach
  • Experience in a multicultural and/or multi-faith setting
  • Computer skills should include: Microsoft Office and Google Drive
  • Understand and practice client confidentiality
  • Education in social services, seminary or a related field of study preferred
  • Lived experience would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrate a commitment to be part of the Christian faith community, and devotion to YSM Articles of Faith & Doctrine and to YSM's Statement of Faith
