The Student Ministries Pastor will oversee and be responsible for all aspects of ensuring the spiritual growth of Hiway Church’s Student Ministries program from Jr. High and Sr. High through to our Young Adults. The essential role of this position is to introduce our students to Jesus and disciple them in spiritual growth. The Student Ministries Pastor will provide direction and hands on leadership, working closely with the Lead Pastor to align with the vision of Hiway Church. This role requires the individual to be a role model of Christian values and behaviour for the staff, congregation and surrounding community.

The ideal candidate for this position would be able to meet the following requirements:

  • Oversee all ministry activities for Jr. & Sr. High students, and for our young adults. This includes evening programming and additional events that occur throughout the year.
  • Develop goals and objectives for student ministries in line with the strategic plan of Hiway Church.
  • Serve as a motivating, inspiring and engaging teacher to our students on a regular/weekly basis as part of a larger plan for their spiritual development.
  • Choose and prepare curriculum for each program and each age level.
  • Recruit, shepherd and set the overall tone and direction for the volunteer leaders and staff that work with you, oversee their weekly activities and conduct any required training.
  • Create and maintain an organized student ministries calendar of all events and activities, leveraging our website to host such calendar.
  • Ensure that our safety protocols are being followed, proper files are kept and volunteer safety training is complete.
  • Provide pastoral care to students and their families, including hospital visitation when appropriate.
  • Monitor the coordination and the need of equipment/supplies and facilities related to any student ministry needs.
  • Maintain a strategy for reaching and assimilating new students and families and following up on missing families that pertain to your overall ministry.
  • Attend staff meetings on a weekly basis.
  • Prepare and adhere to a departmental budget with direction from the Lead Pastor.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor as the need arises but not to take you away from the focus of student ministry.

  • Committed Christ-follower who feels called to minister to students & young adults
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Gifted Bible teacher
  • Ability to build and lead volunteer teams
  • 3-5 years of experience directing student & young adult ministries in an organized setting
  • Worship leadership, an asset
  • Divinity degree (completed or in process)
  • Outgoing personality with the ability to communicate and work well with students & young adults
