Position Description

St. Giles Kingsway Presbyterian Church, Etobicoke,Ontario is seeking a qualified candidate who has a passion for serving Christ and leading our congregation to more fully integrate our mission into the community in which we are planted. In particular, we are envisioning someone who can achieve that goal primarily through a child and family based ministry approach. We hope and pray for a Christian leader who can help us grow as a church family and re-vitalize God’s work in the Humber Valley Village.

Position Summary

The Coordinator of Children and Family Ministry is not called to ‘do ministry’ for us, but to empower our congregation to do the ministry of Christ in this community.

Weekly expected workload of at least 15 hours; with the understanding that time invested may vary, week to week, depending upon ministry needs.

Qualifications

  • Committed Christian who is passionate about integrated, relational ministry 
  • Training in Christian education as well as practical experience in Christian ministry with children 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to be creative, energetic and innovative in the development of programming
  • Superior communications skills and familiarity with the use of social media in Christian outreach

Relationships

  • Reports to Session through a regularly written report every two months
  • Attends Discipleship team meetings
  • Supervised by the Minister through regular meetings

Position Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Minister, the Session and the Discipleship team, the coordinator would lead the way in community outreach – helping connect our Church family with the children and families of our neighbourhood.

  • Develop, coordinate, and evaluate community outreach, particularly through our weekly After School Program
  • Design, coordinate, and evaluate programs which help integrate children and their families into the life of our congregation
  • Coordinate our Church school and summer children’s ministry programs, offer teacher training, provide input on curriculum selection, supply purchasing and evaluations.
  • Call, equip & support leaders in fulfilling their responsibilities in these areas of ministry
  • Be engaged in congregational life and ministry

Evaluation

Evaluation of the position will be based upon:

  • Oversight of volunteers for the after school program & children ministries
  • Ongoing contribution to the development of leadership within the church
  • Helping integrate family based ministries into the congregational ministry
  • Effectiveness of focusing time and energy in appropriate areas of work

Church Accountability

  • Adheres to the theology and traditions of the Presbyterian Church in Canada (PCC) & the philosophy of ministry of St. Giles Kingsway 
  • Fosters positive & constructive relationships with session, staff and leaders
  • Adheres to the PCC Policy on Sexual Abuse and Harassment
  • Adheres to the PCC Policy: Leading with Care
  • Accountable to Session and attends meetings as required for reporting
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Regular attendance at the Sunday morning worship service
  • Provides input into the budgetary planning process

Duration

  • Start Date: September 2019
  • One year contract with three month probationary period
  • Hours: minimum 15 hours per week
  • 2 weeks holiday
  • Remuneration: $22,000 / year
  • Contract may end by either party giving 30 days’ written notice
