Position Purpose Summary

To provide a discipleship and outreach ministry to children and youth from the Church and the local community, from preschool through High School, with the ultimate goal of reaching the youth with the gospel, solidly connecting them with the church, and growing them in their relationship and service to God.


  • Spiritual Leadership:
    • Assist with the spiritual development of children/youth by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviours
    • Coordinate/conduct youth Bible study, as needed
    • Pray with and lead youth to Christ, as well as family members, where opportunity is given
    • Follow up with youth and parents/guardians on spiritual decisions made,  build and strengthen relationships, and guide youth in establishing active links with the Corps and its ministries
    • Other duties as required, including the possibility of occasional Sunday preaching
  • Children and Youth Program Leadership:
    • Provide leadership/oversight for all current child/youth ministries
    • Evaluate, develop and implement programs/ministries relevant to the children and youth of the church and the wider community
    • Plan, promote and supervise special events, including Rally Day, Vacation Bible School, any day trips or special outings, and support Divisional Youth Events
    • Create and coordinate evangelistic outreach activities and provide/ensure pastoral care for children/youth as well as parents and guardians
    • Coordinate/oversee youth fund-raisers, as needed
    • Recruit and train volunteer leaders, as needed and facilitate leadership development of volunteer team members
    • Plan and lead team meetings on a quarterly basis, or as needed
  • Community Relationship Management:
    • Liaise with our Community & Family Services to connect with youth/families, and to communicate appropriate services and programs the church offers
    • Connect with local school personnel to explore any mission/outreach possibilities
    • Liaise with Youth for Christ and other strategic community connections/partnerships


  • Bible College/Youth Ministry education and/or College Diploma in Children/Youth work an asset
  • Possess current First Aid Training, or be willing to get as soon as possible
  • Demonstrated, successful experience in Children/Youth leadership, with strong outreach and discipleship skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • An ability to communicate to, motivate, train and empower youth and youth ministry volunteers
  • Ability to commit the expectation of Christian service hours (@3 hours/week) in addition to paid hours
  • Able to work well within a cooperative team environment and follow the direction of the immediate supervisor
  • Possess strong interpersonal and conflict management skills, including the ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
  • Possess strong computer and social media skills
  • Possess a passion for the spiritual development and well-being of young people, and a love for the Church
  • Articulate and demonstrate a clear vision for child/youth ministry
  • Be in agreement with and committed to sound Christian doctrine; understanding and accepting the Mission Statement of Belleville Community Church and The Salvation Army
  • Willingness to attend and invest in Belleville Community Church
  • Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army - its mission, culture, and values

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening and clear internal abuse registry check
  • A satisfactory driver’s abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

Hours: 30 hours per week. Monday to Friday, 10-4:30, Lots of flexibility required including evening and weekends

Salary: $17.94 - $22.43 per hour
