Position Description

The HCA Discipleship Pastor is a Full-Time position working with HCA students, families, staff and church stakeholders to help form and promote Christian Discipleship (CD) as defined by the Philosophy of Christian Education. As a key leadership role, this individual collaborates with the Leadership Team and other staff to oversee the development, implementation and review of the CD curriculum, and CD events. The Pastor disciples students and provides spiritual support to staff members and parents as needed.


Key responsibilities for the Discipleship Pastor are wide in scope and include many different tasks and responsibilities including, although not imited to:

1. Student Discipleship

  • Foster and provide leadership of the overall vision for discipleship and character development at HCA.
  • Play a key role in defining the strategic spiritual direction for the school.

2. Mentoring of students and staff

  • Develop relationships with students and staff so they feel comfortable to discuss issues they are facing in their personal and spiritual lives.
  • Look for opportunities to provide pastoral care to students, staff and families as appropriate.
  • Build intentional discipleship opportunities for individuals and groups.
  • Work closely with Family School Liaison Counsellor to assist or refer students for support.

3. Staff Spiritual Development

  • Plan and direct staff spiritual formation throughout the year.
  • Prepare and deliver appropriate messages as required.

4. Chapel Program Development

  • Work alongside teachers to develop meaningful chapels.
  • Prepare and deliver appropriate messages as required.
  • Oversee booking and scheduling chapel speakers.
  • Lead and speak at chapels as needed.

5. Bible Class Support

  • Provide theological support and direction for Secondary and Elementary teaching teams.
  • Co-Teach in High School Bible Classes as required.
  • Provide instruction in other classes as requested.
  • Identify and engage with guest speakers to support Bible classes that deal with sensitive topics.

6. Missions Support & Development

  • Assist in planning and carrying-out school Mission trips, homeroom serve projects, and other service opportunities.

7. Liaise with local churches and ‘like-minded’ organizations

  • Communicate with pastors from local churches, other schools, or organizations with similar values and faith beliefs, to involve them in the lives of the HCA students and families.

8. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.


  • Able to clearly express personal faith and relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
  • Agrees wholeheartedly with and abides by the HCA Statement of Faith.
  • Solid understanding of the Bible and theological concepts.
  • Able to articulate and defend scripture.
  • Undergraduate or graduate level degree in Biblical studies or equivalent.
  • Practical experience within a church ministry setting (2 – 3 years preferred).
  • Ability to provide successful Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.


  • Demonstrate and maintain the qualifications of an elder as listed in 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5.
  • A well-rounded depth of understanding of Biblical theology and demonstrated ability to effectively teach, exhort, lead and correct using the Bible.
  • The spiritual maturity to serve others faithfully in dependence upon God through faithful prayer, without self-promotion.
  • Commitment to work collaboratively in an effort to foster teamwork within the HCA Community.
  • Respect a non-denominational environment, allowing differing views on non-essential Biblical doctrine.
  • Passionate about Discipleship and gifted in working with children and youth.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to make sound judgment and decisions.
  • Desire to assist and serve stakeholders in a friendly and engaging manner.
  • Proven attention to detail, organizational and documenting/tracking skills, as well as analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Effectively works independently or in teams requiring give-and-take direction.
  • Self-starter in setting priorities and meeting deadlines.

Working Conditions

  • School Environment – children of varying ages, potentially noisy environments.
  • Regular Office Conditions. Working in a variety of rooms throughout the building.
  • May participate in meetings or events with students off-campus including field trips, retreats and overnight school trips.
