Position Description

Position Overview:

As a member of The Peoples Church Executive team, the Congregational Life (CL) Pastor provides spiritual oversight and leadership to the direct reports; ensuring they have fully functioning ministry teams. The CL Pastor will work with the direct reports to design and direct a series of experiences across all ages that will call, challenge, and coach people into intentionally living as disciples of Jesus Christ. This role includes vision casting, equipping and mobilizing leaders and ensuring there are practical service opportunities in ministry settings. The CL Pastor must be on ‘fire’ for the shared mandate and ensure the vision is executed across all ministries.

  • Direct Reports: (5) Directors /Pastors of: Children’s, Women’s, Young adults, Youth, Visitation & Care ministry
  • Status: Full time, Executive level

Major Responsibilities:

  • Management, Leadership, Discipleship and Shepherding
    • Oversee, coordinate and provide leadership to direct reports to ensure that they have fully functioning ministry teams representing all age groups
    • Work with Ministry leaders to implement a comprehensive plan that will foster spiritual and numerical growth in the church
    • Facilitate the annual strategic planning process, including evaluation of ministry performance; review vision and values; and the development of key objectives that align with annual ministry goals
    • Translate the strategic plan and ensure that department and individual goals match church-wide goals
    • Regularly meet with Ministry leaders for ongoing mentoring and leadership development
    • Conduct weekly staff meetings. Staff meetings will be designed for the purposes of team-building, equipping, transfer of vision, problem-solving and ministry coordination
    • Ensure direct reports can lead members of The Peoples Church through the discipleship pathway
    • Participate in worship services by hosting and making announcement.  Preaching if that is within your gifting.
  • Congregational Care
    • Develop a process that will enable and promote spiritual growth and maturity in the lives of the congregation
    • Provide leadership and oversight of pastoral care of all age groups, including general care, strategies for addressing specific areas of need, and a response to helping people in crisis
    • Facilitate coordinated prayer activities for the church body
    • Conduct weddings, baby dedications and funeral needs as required
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Must understand and support The Peoples Church’s shared mandate and Statement of Faith
  • A relevant university degree or college diploma preferred (theological education preferred)
  • Is a mature follower in Jesus Christ
  • 10+ years of demonstrated leadership, strategic planning and people development experience
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Committed to serving others, supporting the staff and cultivating team ministry
  • Able to articulate a vision and motivate others to participate
  • Ability to equip, train and empower
  • Understands budgets and is able to plan and maintain department finances
  • Possesses the ability to mentor people in spiritual life and personal maturity
  • Significant experience leading and directing public services and events

Working Conditions:

  • Interacts with others (volunteers, staff, member) regularly
  • Executive-level position which involves working extra hours
  • Occasional travel globally
  • Must attend The Peoples Church
  • Full time – Sundays are mandatory
  • Vulnerable Sector clearance required
  • Support and understand Shared mandate and Statement of Faith
