Responsibilities

  • Youth Work - Oversee all youth programs within the Corps and Community & Family Services
    • Contributes to the spiritual development of the youth in the church by mentorship, discipleship, and encouragement
    • Develops, implements, maintains and evaluates programs / ministries relevant to the youth of the church and the community including Sunday School, Kid’s time during Sunday morning worship and mid-week program
    • Teaches and reinforces independent spiritual habits in young people
    • Assists with planning and facilitating special events such as Rally Day and Family Day
    • Makes connections in the community for outreach opportunities
    • Networks with community partners to share resources to effectively and efficiently address community needs
    • Ensure safety of Nursery and sanitize toys
    • Cultivates, trains, and develops volunteer leaders / mentors for youth, ensuring compliance with security procedures, screening documentation and confidentiality
    • Record accurate statistics
    • Actively supports Divisional Youth events
  • Community & Family Services
    • Work cooperatively as part of the team for all clients
    • Assess client needs considering the whole person/family unit including practical, emotional and spiritual needs
    • Provide appropriate services
    • Provide referrals to other agencies as appropriate
    • Maintain complete, accurate, up to date documentation in case files
    • Attend community meetings as needed
    • Assist with community luncheon as necessary
    • Publicize and process camp applications
    • Assist with Christmas food and toys hampers
    • Assist with Kettle campaign
    • Other related duties

Qualifications:

  • Completed high school, plus specialized courses of up to a year at a post-secondary education institution
  • Minimum 2 year prior related experience
  • Experience developing programming for child and youth
  • Ability to communicate in English (verbally and written)
  • Ability to work with youth
  • Ability to provide leadership
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse team of employees, local leadership and volunteers 
  • Ability to work independently  and part of a larger team
  • Experience with recruiting and directing volunteers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience presenting at meetings, churches, workshops, formal and informal gatherings
  • Able to represent The Salvation Army and the Christian faith in a positive/pleasant manner
  • Excellent Computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, social media)
  • Understanding of and adherence to The Salvation Army’s Values and Vision

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clean drivers abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually
  • A clear internal abuse registry check

Hours: 10 hours per week

Salary: $17.94 - $26.92 per hour
