Position Description

This is a leadership role, responsible for the development and maintenance of the congregation of youth members at Toronto Garden Church – Youth Ministry.  This role owns the relationships with each member, develops and implements plans to further the mission of the Youth Ministry as set out by the English Ministry Leadership Board, the Sr. Pastor, in collaboration with this individual.  This role participates in all events throughout the year that are foundational for the Christian faith and will take a leadership position during these events.  This role has the full responsibility of the welfare of each member of the congregation.

Key Operational Duties:

  • Leadership
    • Demonstrates deep foundational knowledge of the Christian faith and God’s calling to minister to the congregation
    • Demonstrates a supportive climate where everyone is encouraged to find, build, nurture their faith and versatility in leadership style in all scenarios
    • Demonstrates collaboration and fearlessness in actions and decision-making
    • Works with the English Ministry Leadership Board to build long-term visions for the congregation and strategies to execute those plans
    • Conduct and lead regular and special Board meetings, as necessary
  • Communication and Relationships
    • Collaborates with English Ministry Leadership Board and congregational leaders on both internal and external communication related to activities/events, church protocol, special events, and any other related matters that may arise
    • Develops and maintains strong professional and collaborative relationships with the congregation
    • Engages each member, where appropriate and necessary
  • Congregational Activities
    • Participates (and leads) all foundational Christian events throughout the calendar year (Easter, Christmas, etc.)
    • Develops and executes leadership training opportunities for Youth Group congregational members
    • Participates, and leads when necessary, community outreach activities and retreats as determined by the English Ministry Leadership Board
    • Delivers regular weekly sermons each Sunday, except when on vacation
    • Participates and leads ministry programs during one weeknight per week to strengthen and nurture friendships and fellowship within the Youth Group

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, biblical studies, or youth ministry
  • Graduate degree from an accredited Christian seminary an asset

Work Experience Requirements:

  • Volunteer or professional experience in working with youth members (ages 12-18 years)
  • Experience in developing and leading ministry programs, community outreach activities and/or retreats
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships in a professional manner while ensuring continued growth of the congregation
