Position Description

  • Direct Reports: Family Discipleship Director, Children’s Ministry Associate
  • Status: Full Time

Position Overview:

As a member of The Peoples Church Ministry team, the Children’s Ministry Pastor is responsible for the strategic direction and inspiring volunteers to execute the shared mandate of The Peoples Church. He/she will serve as an “equipping pastor” by leading and developing a large team of over 150 volunteers. Through this team, the Children’s Ministry Pastor will provide children (infants to age 12) with opportunities to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and develop into young leaders that are gospel-centered and globally engaged. The Children’s Ministry Pastor will seek to implement relevant ways and opportunities that allow our children and families to grow spiritually, gather regularly, live generously and engage globally.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, vision and direction to all aspects of ministry to children and their families;
  • Create a strategy that will execute the shared mandate and enhance the effectiveness of our children’s ministry
  • Develop, inspire and equip volunteers that are passionate about seeing children grow in their faith and love for Jesus; live generously and engage globally;
  • Equip leaders to communicate biblical truths to children and create regular opportunities for training and discipleship;
  • Develop processes necessary for effective Children’s Ministry operations;
  • Provide an environment where children feel safe by administering principles and tools of Plan to Protect;
  • In collaboration with the Director of Family Discipleship, act as a resource to assisting parents with spiritual growth and development at home;
  • Participate in regular meetings with other staff members and leaders as required;
  • Foster strong relationships and seek opportunities to collaborate with Youth and Young Adult Ministry Pastors;
  • Advocate for the needs and perspectives of children and their families, ensuring children are equal members of the church family;
  • Select, evaluate and monitor overall curriculum;
  • Develop communication plans to keep staff, volunteers and families informed
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a deep growing personal faith in Jesus Christ and support the Statement of Faith of The Peoples Church;
  • Be able to effectively implement and teach biblical curricula to children, accommodating differing learning styles, ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds;
  • Have a heart for evangelism, missions and outreach and leading children in discipleship
  • Have been actively involved with children and/or family ministry in a mid-to-large church for 5+ years (paid or volunteer);
  • College Diploma or University Degree preferred;
  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills;
  • Must be a self-starter, having initiative and evident passion for serving the Lord by serving others;
  • Have a teachable attitude and demonstrate an ability to lead teams, building a climate of teamwork, accountability and growth;
  • Possess the ability to use appropriate judgement, discretion, sensitivity and confidentiality;
  • A demonstrated desire to keep current on areas related to child development; family dynamics; safety; and global issues;
  • An ability to embrace innovation and creativity while adapting to growth and change

Working Conditions:

  • Vulnerability Sector Screening must be completed
  • Full time – Sundays are mandator
  • Interacts with others (children, parents, volunteers, staff) regularly
  • Management-level position may involve working extra hours as required
  • Occasional travel locally
