Position Description

Work within a team setting to coordinate all activities, services, events, and outreach opportunities for the Children’s Ministry Department at Wilmot Centre Church.  This is a permanent position at 32 hours per week.

Overview of Wilmot Centre Church

Wilmot Centre Church is located on the west edge of Kitchener-Waterloo near the growing communities of Baden and New Hamburg.  This vibrant congregation of over 350 has ministered to the surrounding area for 180 years.  We have a desire to not just be a church within the walls of the building, but one that is active in the community.  We seek to Help People Follow Jesus by Authentically Connecting, Continually Growing, and Intentionally Engaging.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provides overall direction and vision to Children’s Ministry, in keeping with WCC’s mission and vision.
  • Recruits Children’s Ministry volunteers in cooperation with other WCC staff, and provides opportunities for volunteer training and team-building.
  • Organizes and directly oversees weekly Children’s Sunday School, mid-week Children’s Ministry program, and the Community Playground Drop-in program.
  • Handles administrative and organizational needs including incoming and outgoing communications (calls, emails, mailings, announcement requests, scheduling of volunteers, budgets, etc.).
  • Coordinates special events including Vacation Bible Camp and Fall Family Fun Night.
  • Purchases ministry supplies as required, and maintains all resource rooms and ministry areas in a suitable manner.
  • Administrates the Plan to Protect program, chairs the Plan to Protect Committee, and arranges annual training for staff and volunteers.
  • Attends weekly staff meetings, monthly Ministry Council Meetings, and bi-annual congregational meetings.
  • Reports to the Lead Pastor and Executive Director.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Exemplifies a life lived in submission to God and led and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
  • Possesses a well-developed biblical theology and is able to speak and teach effectively, through a range of styles to various ages.
  • Prior experience in leading a Children’s Ministry is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to lead and train servant leaders.
  • Strong computer and technological skills, including development of promotional material and effective use of technology in ministry.
