Position Description

Approx 20 hours/week


To serve Summit Community Church by managing the care and maintenance of the current property and grounds, and overseeing the efficient preparation of facilities in order to accommodate the various programs presented in the Church buildings. Provide leadership to and supervision of volunteers involved in custodial, transportation and maintenance activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, direct, and evaluate facilities team and vendors in the areas of housekeeping, maintenance, plumbing, vehicles, electrical, HVAC, grounds keeping, WiFi/network maintenance, security including doors, and needed emergency response.
  • Set up Church property spaces for all event requirements (including any necessary cleaning, tables, chairs, etc), and ensuring coverage for any need that may arise.
  • Maintain essential records pertaining to:
    • Vendors
    • Equipment
    • Materials
    • Supplies
    • Facility projects
    • Volunteer training (as applicable)
  • Maintain:
    • Operating manuals
    • Repair records
    • Vendor contracts
    • Emergency procedures
  • Plan, conduct, supervise and evaluate a program of planned maintenance of facility, equipment, and Church-owned vehicles
  • Maintain adequate inventory of any cleaning products, kitchen supplies and spare parts.
  • Develop, implement and maintain programs designed to conserve energy.
  • Work with appropriate government agencies to ensure that buildings are safe and meet current building and safety code requirements.
  • Correct routine problems; recommend corrective action for major maintenance needs.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repair on building and building systems &/or oversee.
  • Preventative maintenance for heating and air conditioning systems.
    • Basic repairs to plumbing and electrical systems
    • Ensure that roofs, rain gutters, drains, doors and windows are well maintained Basic repairs to plaster, brick and stone work
    • Ensure that fire extinguishers are inspected regularly
    • Minor remodelling projects upon request
    • Painting as needed
    • Within budget, contract services for periodic: Snow removal
    • Baptismal tank rental / filling / removal Floor stripping, carpet cleaning
  • Assist in the maintenance of grounds and equipment ensuring that parking lots, grounds and sidewalks are clean and well-maintained. Staff contact for Grounds Team, including leadership of annual Eco Day event.
  • Work with Executive Pastor to assist in the development of the capital and maintenance operating budget and oversee expenditures throughout the year.
  • Oversee waste management including regular collection & disposal of garbage & recycling, as well as large item/hazardous waste disposal.
  • Tidying and organizing general areas (eg: barn, Shop, etc)

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Reporting to Sr Pastor, through the Executive Pastor
  • Evenings and weekends will be required.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be familiar with general maintenance operation
  • Must possess excellent leadership and communications skills as well as physical capacity to fulfill role
  • Excel at planning, conducting, supervising, and evaluating a program of facility and equipment maintenance
  • Preferred work experience in facility management
