Position Description

Lines of Accountability

The jobholder will report directly to the Director of Youth Ministry in carrying out this ministry. He / She is required to interact effectively with all ministry staff and volunteers with a joyful and servant heart.


To work with the Youth Team to help provide both ministerial and practical support to the youth of Island ECC, particularly those in High School, and to assist in effectively reaching un-churched and non-Christian youth of Hong Kong.


  • Weekly Programme and Events
    • Assist the Youth Team in the planning of services, small groups and special events
    • Teach and/or lesson plan for High School services and small group as required
    • Intentionally disciple 2-3 students throughout the year, helping them to grow in their own personal relationships with God
    • Attend programmes and events, providing leadership as assigned
    • Work with Youth Team in ongoing support of current volunteers and recruitment of future volunteers
    • Assist Youth Team in outreach to schools and community in Hong Kong
    • Assist with summer camp & city-wide events  
    • Assist with the assimilation of Youth in the church community
  • Team Responsibilities
    • Faithfully contribute to the overall ministry and vision of Youth Ministries and Island ECC
    • Help in organising, maintaining and keeping the youth ministry space in optimal conditions
    • Attend weekly youth staff meetings led by the Director of Youth Ministry
  • Other
    • Island ECC reserves the right to vary the scope of work from time to time as needed.

Relationship with God and Island ECC

  • Maintains an authentic and growing relationship with Christ through the ongoing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, personal worship and fellowship.
  • Be a committed part of Island ECC and be in agreement with its statement of faith, its mission, purpose and core values.
  • Wholeheartedly supports the Island ECC Staff Covenant.
  • Attends all staff meetings and team meetings as required, especially the monthly staff and prayer meetings.

Required Abilities, Skills and Knowledge

  • Fluency in English; Cantonese speaking ability is beneficial but not required
  • Able to both relate to and lead youth; previous youth experience preferred
  • Know God’s word well and be able to relate it to youth in ways that form disciples of Christ
  • Able to work with and lead youth and adult volunteers from diverse cultural and denominational backgrounds
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to produce professional business documents
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills, including phone and text messaging skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team with a joyful spirit
  • High sense of confidentiality
  • A gracious, Christ-like demeanour, particularly in demanding situations
  • Ability to be extremely flexible in an environment that is subject to many changes; maintains a positive attitude through the changes
  • Familiarity with church environment
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to multi-task effectively
  • Demonstrates initiative and sound judgment
  • Excellent ability to source and mobilise resources effectively
  • Willing to work outside of normal office hours
