Position Description

St. Andrew’s is a vibrant evangelical congregation in the Reformed tradition. We worship and serve together in the community of Huntsville, in the heart of Muskoka.  We have a new opportunity for a full-time combined Director of Family Ministries & Outreach Coordinator (40 hours/week with 30 hrs/wk designated for Youth and Family plus 10 hrs/wk for Outreach)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-secondary training in youth ministry or education,  
  • 2 years experience in Christian leadership, or equivalent education / experience
  • Maturing Christian who exhibits a growing knowledge of Scripture and experience of the fruits of the Spirit and is a model for Christ-like behavior
  • Passion for Christ, love for young people, and a desire to help build strong Christian families
  • Proven ability to build Christ-like relationships with children and youth through fellowship, worship, teaching scripture and outreach
  • An agreement with the Core Values and Mission Statement of St. Andrew’s, Huntsville
  • A clear Police Check, including a Vulnerable Persons check, First Aid qualifications an asset

Key Responsibilities

  • Youth Leadership
    • Contributing member of Family Ministry Life Group providing intentional team-building leadership by training and mentoring volunteers
    • Develop programming to meet the needs of St. Andrew’s youth and families
    • Work with our youth and families to create an identity for St. Andrew’s youth and train, encourage and mentor youth leaders
    • Support and provide guidance and encouragement to Lightseekers Sunday School teachers and helpers
    • Provide direction for children, family and youth ministries (e.g. curriculum, themes, service) and direct key youth events throughout the year (e.g. VBS, Christmas, Easter)
    • Engage and support parents in raising Christian young people, and in transitioning young people to adult worship
    • Adherence to Leading with Care Guidelines, and advocating best practices for safety in youth and family ministries
  • Outreach
    • Partner with the Mission and Stewardship Life Group to create opportunities for the congregation to reach out in the community out of a love for Jesus combining service and gospel
    • Assess the spiritual and practical needs of the community, and the resources of local Christian ministries  in making recommendations to the Mission and Stewardship Life Group for Outreach
    • Develop a model of assessment for these activities
    • Follow up with those served, and where willing encourage continued Christian contact through St. Andrew’s or other parts of the local Christian community.
  • Administration and Communication
    • Establish a healthy working relationship with other leadership groups in the congregation
    • Provide a quarterly reports to Session through the Family Ministry Life Group and the Stewardship and Mission Life Group and collaborate with these groups to report for the Annual Meeting
    • Communicate and work with the Senior Minister / Teaching Elder, who will provide oversight, to engage the youth and families regularly in worship and service
    • Communicate with other youth leaders within our community
  • Accountability
    • Day to day coordination and communication with the Senior Pastor / Teaching Elder
    • Accountable to Session through the Ruling Elders on the Family Ministries Life Group and Mission  &  Stewardship Life Group
    • Meet regularly with 2 support elders for prayer, care and encouragement 
    • Regular attendance/participation in Sunday worship and the life of the church
    • Be available for additional roles/duties/tasks as assigned
