Position Description

FULL-TIME POSITION: Half Time Young Life Staff Associate & Half Time Church Youth Worker

We have a unique opportunity for someone looking for a full-time ministry position and the desire to be a missionary to the local community as well as an important spiritual mentor. Sound like you? Read on!

Since Young Life began in Canada in 1954, its staff and volunteers have cared enough to leave the comfort of their adult worlds and enter the arena of high school and junior high school life. These trained Young Life leaders are committed to friendships with kids - no strings attached. They go where kids are and spend time in their world playing road hockey, going to the mall, watching a basketball game, or heading to the ski hill. Young Life leaders build bridges of friendship in order to “earn the right to be heard.” We are all about communicating God's love and the Christian message to kids in terms they can understand. Young Life values and respects all young people, and welcomes all teenagers, both junior and senior high, regardless of race or religious beliefs.

Young Life Vancouver and Reality Church are partnering to hire a youth worker. You will serve 21 hours per week as a Staff Associate with Young Life, and 19 hours per week as Youth Worker at Reality Church. Together this full time job will bring together the local church and an outreach focus into the local community.

Reporting to the Area Director, you commit to active participation in a fellowship learning community for two years where you will learn Young Life ministry skills, spiritual leadership and professionalism to effectively reach teenagers with the Gospel.

You are responsible to recruit, train and lead a team of volunteer leaders, and build an effective new Young Life ministry in a junior or senior high setting. You will be active in all levels of contact work and invest in key groups of kids. You will build a thriving club, take kids to camp, and initiate and lead a Campaigner group with excellence. You will build relationships with teenagers, presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ incarnationally, always trying to bridge the gap between teenagers and Jesus. Teenagers will hear the Gospel in terms they can understand from someone who cares for them personally.

We are praying for someone who has a passion and vision for youth ministry. We are excited to work with you and Young Life to develop three areas in our church community: discipleship, communal times of fun, relationship and faith, and outreach to youth in the community. We are seeking someone who loves and follows Jesus, is a self-starter, is willing to learn and make mistakes, and is open to making relationships with the different youth God has brought to our community.

Dynamic Christian faith and a passion to share it Experience leading a youth ministry in the church or parachurch setting Ease in creating friendships--can talk with teens Personal and spiritual maturity Ability to keep adequate records and to delegate Commitment to learning and self-improvement Capacity to recognize and advance synergies between Young Life, Reality and other participants in Christ's Kingdom
