Position Description

About Young Life

Young Life is a Christian mission loving teenagers in their world, encouraging them to know Jesus Christ.

Since Young Life of Canada began in 1954, staff and volunteers have been entering the world of teens to share God’s love and the Christian message of hope and love.  You will find volunteer Young Life leaders wherever kids are found:  cheering in the stands at a hockey game, encouraging them in school activities, or hanging out at the nearest coffee shop or skate park.

In an increasingly disconnected world, Young Life leaders seek to build authentic relationships and focus on what matters most to teens - fun, adventure, and a sense of significance.  We strive to cultivate meaningful connections through mentoring relationships and create safe spaces where teens are listened to and questions of life and faith can be discussed.

About your opportunity

Reporting to the President and serving on our Executive Leadership Team, you are responsible to oversee Young Life’s field operations throughout the country, where teens hear the Gospel in terms they understand from someone who cares for them personally so as to accomplish Young Life’s mission to glorify God by sharing Jesus Christ with the entire next generation.  You subscribe to our Statement of Faith and abide by our Codes of Conduct.

You have strategic and operational responsibility for Young Life field work and lead a team of Regional and Ministry Directors.  You ensure growing, sustainable, and stable incarnational ministry across the country, with accountability to outcomes and excellence, including local ownership, professional supervision, effective camp strategy and effective recruit, train, deploy (RTD) strategy at all levels of the organization.  You sustainably grow Young Life by scaling existing work and birthing new regions and ministries.

This full-time permanent position would ideally be located in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia or the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario.

About you

Your vibrant and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ equips you to be an effective spiritual leader. You have a solid track record of building and leading diverse teams to achieve results around a compelling vision.  You are a collaborative leader who analyzes the big picture to develop an effective action-oriented strategy.  You are a results-oriented entrepreneur who builds sustainable capacity and can grow Young Life’s field ministry.   Your authentic personal warmth helps you connect with a variety of constituents throughout Young Life; you are at home in this relational ministry.

You understand the mechanics of effective incarnational youth ministry, and have demonstrated success recruiting, training, and deploying diverse teams of staff and volunteers.   You rise to the challenge of leading a team of managers who are dispersed and relish the thought of frequent travel to connect with Young Life across Canada.  Having worked for many years in the not-for-profit sector, you are a seasoned fundraiser who understands the importance of personal relationships with donors.

You have ten to 15 years' youth ministry experience, and five to seven years’ demonstrated leadership experience at the director or executive level.  You have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
