Position Description

Northend Church is a church plant of the Ontario Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches that opened in 2018. We are looking for a Congregational Life Pastor to help foster meaningful growth and connection in our church family. The pastor would oversee the Life Groups Ministry, as well as the development of ministry leaders who will serve the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of our congregation. Depending on gifting, this person will also share in the preaching/teaching and provide pastoral counselling. It is essential that this person be committed to raising up leaders and work hard to create a connected community.

The responsibilities for this position will include:

Life Groups Ministry (40% of Time)

  • Provide leadership to the Life Group Ministry by developing the overall vision for the ministry and creating/curating resources for the groups.
  • Recruit, train, equip, and inspire Life Group leaders. Provide care and discipleship for leaders when issues arise.
  • Provide oversight to small group administration.
  • Create opportunities for people to connect to Life Groups and promote the Life Group Ministry through various channels of communication (emails, face-to-face interactions, social media etc.)

Pastoral Care (25% of Time)

  • Meet with people, providing encouragement, discipleship, counsel, wisdom, and support.
  • Carry out basic Biblical counseling to individuals and couples.
  • Conduct weddings and pre-marital counselling courses.
  • Conduct funerals and provide pastoral care for those walking through grief.
  • Conduct special services such as baptisms and child dedications.

*Potentially* Tech Administration (30% of Time)

  • Oversee the audio-visual components of Sunday services and coordinate volunteers to operate sound board and technical operations.
  • Coordinate the delivery of online services using ProPresenter and SlingStudio.

Teaching (5% of Time)

On occasion, the Congregational Life Pastor will perform Sunday morning teaching responsibilities in the absence of the Lead Pastor as follows:

  • Prepare and deliver Biblical sermons that challenge congregants and provide strength and encouragement for their daily lives.
  • Create visual presentations to accompany sermons.
  • Prepare the outline for the worship service in coordination with other staff and volunteers.
  • Lead meaningful times of communion aligned with the teaching series.

Qualifications include:

  • Personal, growing relationship with Jesus; a strong commitment to the Word of God and prayer.
  • A passion for people with a genuine desire to see congregants grow in their relationship with Jesus.
  • Theological grounding and sensitivity to the needs of a multigeneration church.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Skilled in leadership, management and team building.
  • Experience leading a small group ministry providing strategic planning and leading volunteers.
  • Empathetic disposition with an ability to build relationships and experience providing pastoral care.
  • Highly motivated and action oriented; a strong work ethic; a get-it-done kind of person.
  • Graduate degree in a related discipline (preferred but not essential).

While this position is part-time for approximately 25-30 hours per week, there is also a position for a Worship Pastor. These two positions can be complementary and form a full-time position.
