Dates: May 17 to October 8, 2021 (21 weeks)

St. Philip’s Lutheran Church is seeking a community-minded individual who is interested in helping the church take an active role in addressing food insecurity among families in the neighbourhood. This summer position involves coordinating an established Community Good Food Market and Neighbourhood Table Program alongside community partners.

Responsibilities:

Working with support from dynamic program team members and amazing volunteers you will be responsible to act as the Coordinator for both the Good Food Market and The Neighbourhood Table.

Coordinate Weekly Good Food Market:

  • Act as main point person with Food Share in planning, ordering, and receiving culturally appropriate fruits and vegetables weekly from Food Share
  • Stock a weekly mobile Good Food Market
  • Attend the weekly Good Food Market and help with set-up, display produce, greet customers, pick and pack produce, and take payment
  • Help in storing and/or distributing leftover produce
  • Manage Good Food Market budget
  • Identify and organize community partners and/or vendors who wish to set up booths alongside the mobile Good Food Market
  • Plan and organize family/kid friendly activities each week at market locations
  • Recruit church and community volunteers and develop schedule
  • Use a combination of social media and traditional methods to advertise and promote the market
  • Participate in Good Food Market team meetings
  • Provide effective and timely communication to team members, Food Share and volunteers
  • Coordinate evaluation of program
  • Provide support to Program Lead as required
  • Manage all administration as required

Coordinate Neighbourhood Table Program:

  • Act as main point person with Food Share in planning, ordering and receiving weekly Food Boxes
  • Manage Food Box and overall program budget
  • Manage and distribute gift card inventory
  • Attend and organize the weekly Neighbourhood Table delivery day; receive Food Boxes, create volunteer driving lists, pack additional materials, gift cards etc.
  • Act as main point person with agency partners
  • Develop master client delivery list from agency partners’ information
  • Recruit church and community volunteers and develop schedule
  • Assist in creating weekly food themes
  • Coordinate all aspects of weekly Neighbourhood Table deliveries including clients, volunteers and contents
  • Assist chefs with translation and production of materials
  • Assist chefs with producing recipes and nutritional information
  • Support gardener and container gardening program
  • Manage & update social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
  • Co-host a family friendly outdoor fundraising event
  • Provide effective and timely communication to team members, agency partners, and volunteers
  • Participate in Neighbourhood Table team meetings
  • Coordinate evaluation of the program
  • Research and/or develop opportunities to get further involved with food advocacy or food justice

Qualifications

  • Able to represent St. Philip’s Lutheran Church in a professional manner with all members of the public and work within the context of a Christian church
  • Desire to serve marginalized people in the community
  • Confident, organized, enthusiastic, creative and a detail-oriented team player
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing events or programs
  • Experience working with volunteers in a leadership capacity
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong Microsoft skills (Word & Excel)
  • Strong social media skills – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
  • Strong Zoom skills
  • Community development or outreach an asset
  • Able to lift produce boxes (10-20 lbs)
  • Driver’s licence an asset
