Position Description

The job of the Head Cook is to oversee the planning, preparation, and serving of daily meals to campers and staff; to assure safe and sanitary food storage and preparation.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Confirm weekly menus with the Food Resources Manager and/or Camp Director.
  • Communicate food and equipment needs to the Food Resources Manager.
  • Prepare, along with the assistant cooks, three nutritious meals per day for campers and staff.
  • With the assistance of servers, serve meals—on time and at appropriate temperatures—according to the camp schedule. 
  • Receive any reusable leftovers and oversee their proper and prompt storage and use in future meals. 
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen following the health and safety standards established by the Ontario Camp Association.
  • Assist other camp staff as needed with acquiring supplies and information needed for trips, cookouts, and activities. 
  • Supervise the kitchen team
  • Ensure smooth operations of the kitchen
  • Work with the Food Resources Manager to make improvements to menu, procedures, scheduling, and kitchen manual.
  • Work with Food Resources Manager to ensure all Groceries and supplies are ordered and received in a timely fashion.
  • Communicate with Health Inspector
  • Promote Camp Cherith in own sphere of influence

Needed For The Job:

  • Current Food Handler’s Certification (other qualifications an asset)
  • Ability to respond to critical incidents.
  • Physical and mental ability to enforce and carry out safety regulations and emergency procedures. 
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and move at least 40 pounds. 
  • Physical stamina to meet the demands of a full work day. 
  • Supervisory skills and ability to work with others. 
  • Ability to work in high-paced environment
