Position Description


Dutton Baptist Church is located in the small town of Dutton, in the heart of rural Southwestern Ontario, approximately 30 minutes west of London and St. Thomas, and 45 minutes east of Chatham. Dutton’s population is approximately 4100 but it is a rapidly growing bedroom community. The church has ministered in Dutton and the surrounding area for almost 150 years.

Our congregation has 23 members. Our average Sunday attendance is 25. This group is made up of some younger families, middle-age couples and singles, and seniors. We also have a growing children’s group.


We are seeking an interim pastor to serve on a part-time basis for six months with possible extension to a year (20 hours a week, lodging available for out-of-town applicants). We are seeking someone who is gifted at communicating the Gospel to people of all ages and situations and makes it a priority to actively seek the will of God through prayer, having a strong desire to teach, study and live by God’s Word. They must have the ability to share the love of Christ and connect with the people who attend our church and live in our community. They must also be sincere, caring and possess a heart for God to provide guidance, care and assistance to others.


Ordained Christian minister with theological degree or a divinity student from a recognized Canadian university. Must be eligible for accreditation with the Canadian Baptists of Ontario & Quebec.


  • Preaching most Sundays
  • Working with leadership team
  • Pastoral visitation as required
  • Working from the church office one day a week (or two half days)
  • Develop/facilitate a weekly program
  • Discipleship: modelling and encouraging people to grow in their knowledge, relationship, commitment and service to Jesus
  • Encourage outreach to the community


  • Ability to explain and apply the Scriptures to be relevant to our daily lives
  • Good interpersonal skills, relational
  • Comfortable visiting seniors and others
  • Desire for outreach, to share the gospel, and orientation towards evangelism
