Position Description

As a Casual Donations Processor/Receiver, you assist with receiving, sorting, and processing donated goods for various product categories and ensure the efficient flow of the process. We receive a variety of donated items that make work interesting and being involved in various stages of the thrift store process will keep you engaged. You will work with volunteers, customers, and donors in a manner that reflects Christian respect and integrity, exemplifying the beliefs, values, and mission of Mennonite Central Committee in the workplace.

This is an ongoing casual position with the required shift of Saturdays, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM weekly, on a rotating schedule that includes a minimum of 2 Saturdays per month.  We are filling up to 4 casual positions.  This position is accountable to the Back of House Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School Diploma, post-secondary studies preferred
  • Customer service/retail experience is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to be responsible, dependable, and work collaboratively on a diverse team of staff and volunteers
  • Capacity to work quickly/efficiently on solo tasks for extended periods of time
  • Strong organizational skills, able to make quick decisions, and prioritize tasks
  • Adaptable and able to manage a dynamic environment, with varying demands and interruptions
  • A self-starter, able to take initiative and identify what needs to be done, as well as follow direction from the leadership team
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) on occasion
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, internet, email communication, and basic phone system
  • Aptitude for numbers and operating sales equipment (cash register, credit card machines) is an asset
  • Satisfactory criminal record check clearance
  • Ability to reflect and express Anabaptist beliefs and the value of service
  • Ability to articulate MCC’s beliefs, mission and purpose to customers and donors
  • Ability to contribute to the development of a positive culture based on Christian beliefs and values
  • Heart for social justice, peacemaking, and global understanding

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Pre-sorting donations into categories while assessing quality and disposing of recycling or non-saleable goods
  • Assisting with sorting and pricing of incoming donations
  • Assisting in the donation receiving area
  • Deliver a high level of customer service, ensuring donors have a great experience and will come again.
  • Maintaining tidiness and organization in the work area
  • Following processes for recycling and disposal process of product that will not be sold
  • Assisting on the retail floor, as needed
  • Ensuring that workplace safety and general safeguarding practices are upheld through in-store operations
  • Answering inquiries about MCC’s beliefs and values as needed
  • Assisting in resolving any conflicts arising with customers or volunteers in a manner that reflects respect, careful listening, and peaceful resolution
  • Maintaining a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ's unconditional love to those we serve, including the staff, volunteers, and customers
  • Contributing to the shaping of a positive workplace culture based on Christian beliefs and values
  • Participating in MCC staff trainings, staff meetings which include morning prayer times, and annual MCC signature events
  • Performing other duties, as required
