Position Description

Qualifications

The Candidate:

  • has a strong, dedicated Christian faith and shows a commitment to Christian ministry
  • aligns his/her beliefs with St. Paul’s Congregational Church’s Statement of Faith
  • is gracious with excellent interpersonal skills
  • demonstrates a willingness to work with and take direction from others, particularly the lead pastor or their designate
  • possesses the gift of leadership with youth, and a desire to work within a multi-generational framework linking members
  • leads by raising up leaders within the youth and volunteers
  • uses education strategies to support educational events to teach and mentor youth
  • ideally has previous experience in leading youth and/or young adults in either a paid or volunteer capacity
  • ideally has formal education or willingness to pursue
  • with musical gifts would be considered an asset

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads children and youth and related ministries toward greater awareness and relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ
  • Liaises with the Lead Pastor or designate responsible for youth activities, to assist in coordination of ministries directed to youth and young people including evening programming and Sunday school
  • Liaises with the Pastor to assist in the delivery of some educational events such as Small Groups or workshops
  • Coordinates the engagement of young people (up to the end of high school) in wider church activities such as worship and some programs at the direction of the Pastor
  • Coordinates a volunteer base
  • Ensures the safety of children and youth through adherence to the Plan to Protect policy and ensures volunteers complete required forms and training
  • Demonstrates adherence to the SPCC Code of Conduct

Specific Other Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate youth group gatherings (Souled Out and Connect) on a week nights and Unlocked on Sunday mornings (fall session, winter session, spring session and summer session) with the goal of fun Christian faith development
  • Collaborates with other Ministry Action Teams within SPCC to foster both awareness and stewardship e.g. Fellowship, Missions, Care
  • Maintains an on-line presence and makes family support materials available
  • Ensures the preparedness of the volunteer base with SPCC safety guidelines, policies and procedures and maintains accurate records of those activities
  • Ensures the utilization of quality approved educational materials aligned with SPCC’s Statement of Faith
  • Creates quarterly goals and tracks program progression submitting monthly reports to the lead pastor or his/her designate
  • Plans and delivers special programing and events
  • Works within a prescribed annual budget
