Position Description

"Catalyzer: As in fuel. Something that initiates action or activity."

Do you hate being bored? Are you the kind of person who thinks up things to do when your friends are out of ideas? Looking to make a lasting impact on some youth while having fun? Are you between the ages of 15-30?Then you’re the kind of person we’re looking for! This is an 8 week, 35 hr/week, paid position during the summer months. This will be all about planning fun, creative activities, promotion, and connecting with those who show up.

What You'll Do:

  • Summer isn’t boring – it’s just that people sometimes need some help making their own fun. This position is about planning, promoting and executing fun reasons to get together and make some friendships over the months of July and August. And we’ll give you a head-start! Our summer Day Camp program includes a number of youth working as counsellors and LiTs (Leaders-in-training) and the events you plan will help them to build teamwork and friendship too. Here’s what you’ll do:
  • You’ll connect with other youth-oriented organizations in the community to learn more about them.
  • You’ll create novel ways of engaging youth in the community.
  • You’ll develop and maintain a social media campaign designed for engaging youth around meaningful issues and upcoming events.
  • You’ll engage with a group of youth working at our Day Camp in order to build relationships with and between them.
  • Maybe some other stuff we think up at the time.

What You'll Bring:

  • Your faith helps. We’re a Christian organization and we want to model Jesus’ teaching and behaviour in everything we do. Jesus had a knack for making strangers into friends – so we hope you will too.
  • Your creativity and social media savvy.
  • Your magnetic personality. We need you to be out-going and self-motivated in this job (though you’ll have help from our Youth Pastor). You’ll also need to recruit other youth to join you in pulling this off.
  • Your maturity. You will need to ensure that youth who participate are able to do so in a physically, mentally and emotionally safe environment. Also, if you’re 18 or over you’ll need to provide us with a current police background check.
  • Your flexibility and adaptability. While the focus of this position is on connecting with youth in the community there is an intersection with our Day Camp program. You may need to help there sometimes.
  • Your commitment. We need you to show up every day for the duration of the contract.
  • Access to your own wheels would be a bonus!
  • Your sense of humour (we’re into fun around here! :))
